Patches on the tops, but not enough to play in, I shouldn't think.

    Different story today!
Not much use on a Monday though!
Forecast seems to suggest it might hang around for a couple of days for
anyone lucky enough to have any holidays left :-(

Yes - it's snowing steadily over much of S Lancs and Cheshire, but
chances are it will soon be washed away.

It's even snowing in York :-)
Unfortunately I'm confined to the house having poked myself in the eye
with a tree while orienteering yesterday...

Well that was pretty stupid of you! Not looking where you were going,
I suppose. Tut, tut... How come you weren't wearing goggles? I hope
they gave you a good telling off at the hospital!

"A member of York MRT, who declined to be named, told the BBC that the
idiot who had to be rescued was completely ill-equipped, having
neither safety goggles nor eye drops nor eye-patch, and lacked the
skills to read his GPS once he had been blinded by the twig. He added
that anyone venturing out in such weather deserved to be billed for
the full cost of the helicopter. 'What's worse', he commented, 'the
man was wearing what looked to me like trainers.' "

The tree's lawyer will be round to sue you shortly... 8>. Remember what
Is aid on another thread, about why I still wear glasses and not
    contacts!!

Actually it's now snowing furiously in Shropshire (settling even) which
is totally agin what all the forecasts said was going to happen. Brown
Clee is white - well, the bottom 25%, the rest is completely invisible
    in the snow/clouds.

Why did you feel it necessary to poke yourself in the eye with a tree,
surely something smaller and cleaner would have had the desired
    effect?

Oi, shut it Rooney, or I'll set my mate Nomad on you!

Though now I come to think of it, I've not heard from him since his
impromptu trip up to Skye earlier this year...

I normally wear specs, but cos it was pissing down, used contacts
instead, and failed to allow for the resulting lack of protection...,

At least I've stopped weeping today :-)

    Heh heh!

Actually I'm a big fan of the MRTs. I don't doubt for one moment that
the media hype up the criticisms of rescuees whenever they get the
chance. Judging by their websites, they do waste a lot of time
looking for people who've given the wrong location - the conclusion
there is obvious. But there's a terrific number of damaged ankles. I'd
love to know what proportion of those ankles were encased in boots.
The best site is LAMRT's - the guy who writes their report is a real
wit, as has been mentioned here before.
