I use bacon (and some of the grease) in my potato salad. But it's really
my late grandmother-in-law's recipe, not mine.

Once upon a time I made oven potatoes with bacon and bread crumbs. I liked
them very much They called "patate sabbiose"! I must find the recipe. Is
    your recipe like this?
I would like to try your recipe.
    Thank you

Well, not really, but here is the recipe. Anything with bacon and
potatoes sounds good to me, though 🙂.

    Trudy's potato salad:

10 pounds of potatoes (I have used russets and all-purpose and red
potatoes for this. Trudy always used russets- it makes a more "mushy"
potato salad, but all-purpose or red potatoes will hold their shape
better, if that's what you like. If you use all-purpose, peel them
before you boil. peeling red potatoes *ever* ought to be a crime :>😉,
boiled, peeled, and cut into 6ths or 8ths depending on size
a dozen hard boiled eggs, 2 sliced into wedges, the rest peeled and cut
    into small chunks
a few green onions, cleaned and sliced the long way
the better part of a 32 oz. jar of miracle whip (you can add a bit of
vinegar and sugar to mayo for a similar taste)
a pound of bacon, cut into small pieces and fried up
a heaping cup of chopped celery
a heaping cup (or more, if you like onions as much as I do) of chopped onion
I usually drizzle a bit of the bacon grease on the potatoes while they
are cooling. (my contribution to the recipe)

when everything is cooled, mix everything except the green onions and
egg wedges, and season with seasoned salt and pepper. Use the egg wedges
and green onion for garnish, and sprinkle with paprika.

When we lived with my in-laws, I used to help his grandmother make this
twice a year at christmas and easter. Neither of my husband's sisters
are very keen on cooking (and one of them is vegan, and would not touch
bacon or eggs if you paid her), so it's on my shoulders now. I don't
mind- I think it's best slightly warm, right after it's mixed up
(especially licked off my fingers before I wash them to put on the
    garnishes :> )

She was a really cool older lady and I miss her a lot.

It's a WONDERFUL recipe and I will try tomorrow. Be sure! Only a think I
must ask you: I don't know if I will find grreen onions because it is
winter, now. What do you think I can replace them with?

They are just there for garnish. you could use red onion, maybe? Can you

That's basically what my family does...just 2 differences...we mix the
miricle whip half and half with mayo ...and we use some white onions
instead of the green onions, you mentioned. On ocassion we also use thinly
(mandolin) sliced red radishes in the mix too. But we prefer it cold...best
    one day old.

Trudy used to garnish with radishes too, but no one else likes them

ok to say but "schvartzeh" is not(it means "black", though it certainly

    Pandora,

Wash and then saute a small handful of spinach until wilted, set aside.

Dice half of a small plum tomato, small dice.

Mix three eggs with a tablespoon water and a pinch of salt. Cook in olive
oil and butter until set. Add spinach and tomato on one half, add your
favorite cheese, fold over the other half and after 30 seconds flip onto
a plate. Top with a tablespoon of parmesan regiano and optionally some

    That's funny - I never think of either of those as requiring recipes;
they're just something I do with the ingredients:

    Potato Salad
Red-skin potatoes, boiled and peeled; chunked or diced
    oil and vinegar-type dressing
Hard-cooked eggs, peeled, and chopped (1/3 as many eggs as potatoes)
    Green onions, chopped
    Celery, chopped
    Miracle Whip dressing or mayo

Peel and cut the spuds while they're hot, dump some oil-vinegar dressing
on them (Think Wish Bone Italian dressing) while hot and let them cool.
Add everything else, combine and chill. Use within two days.

I use bacon (and some of the grease) in my potato salad. But it's really
my late grandmother-in-law's recipe, not mine.

What's the mouthfeel like when the bacon grease is cold? It doesn't
    sound appealing.
