  1. All summer long, I've been procrastinating about swapping out my winter tires (Schwalbe Marathons)
for my beloved Comp Pools. I finally got a round tuit this morning, and swapped the tires, as it was
time for me to catch up on bike maintenance anyway. Between the tire swap and a clean chain, I wound
up picking up a little over 2 MPH average on my Old Plank Road Trail course, going from 14.8 to
17.0. It was quite surprising how much less effort it took to hold my speed.

I still got smoked by a roadie going east from Wildwood Drive to Harlem Avenue. I had come up on
him, and he couldn't bear the thought of being passed by someone on a 'bent. He beat me to Harlem by
about ten seconds. I wish I could afford an Aero. :o) Still, I can't complain too much, given that
my Rocket is about as fredly as possible (rack, fenders, lights, seat bag with lots of junk inside,
air horn, heavy-duty rims... you get the picture). It must weigh 50 lbs or so. It's much better for
steady "diesel" riding, rather than sprinting.

At Harlem, he decided to wait for his girlfriend, while I continued east to the end of the trail at
Western Avenue. I never did see him again, even on the return trip, so he must have turned back
    somewhere. Wimp.

Heading back west, I saw someone riding east on a yellow Optima Baron. Wow, that's one sharp bike! I
also saw a P-38, a BikeE, and an EZ-3 on the trail at other locations.

Russ, most likely that Dfer had a bike weighing probably 21 lbs or less (Vs. your 50 lb bike) and he
finished ahead of you by a MERE 10 seconds??? I wouldn't consider that a defeat, but rather a
victory for you considering the weight factor. By the way, I'm waiting for my Aero to be put

know I have tried many tires. I gotta say that my two wheelsets on the Aero sport the
Fortezzas...Rich is right, they is da fastest. Keep em at 145 psi and ride like hell. I got 2500
mile outa the first set. Michelin Pro Race and Hutchenson Carbon Comps are good for
1.8-2.0K in my experience. No flats on the Fortezzas in ovr' 3K. EZ... I will be in Florida to ride
this winter!!!!!This is the third year I have said that and never made it. However, I am
determined to close the shop for 2 possibly 3 weeks. in Jan. or Feb.

I suggest you read "Witness" by Whittaker Chambers and get up to date on what has happened in the
past half century. It has now become established beyond all doubt that Roosevelt had communist
agents in the government (Alger Hiss) who were committing espionage on behalf of the Soviet Union
and that old FDR was out to lunch on the seriousness of the communist menace. McCarthy performed a
valuable service in making us aware of communists in the government and in our society and he will
be hailed as an American hero eventually - when the remainder of the treasonous liberals from that
era have gone to their eternal reward (the fires of hell I hope). Welch will go down in history as

That's pretty despicable of you. I guess you have no sense of decency, either.

You sure are eager to fling accusations of treason against anyone who doesn't toe the Party Line.
Where have I seen such logic before?

Ah, yes. Such logic prevails in totalitarian regimes like the late, unlamented USSR, or Pinochet's
Chile, Argentina under the junta, Red China, Castro's Cuba, Saudi Arabia, Saddam's Iraq, I could go
on. Now the neocons are sending what is supposed to be the Land of the Free down the same path.

You know nothing whatsoever about me if you think that I support communism [1]. As far as I'm
concerned, communism and fascism are opposite sides of the same coin - that of oppression, of
privileged elites running roughshod over anyone who dares to get in their way, of systematic
impoverishment of the populace, of demonizing or destroying outright anyone who dares to question or
    criticize the "leadership."

As for McCarthy, he employed the very same tactics that the communists used - systematic character
assasination, show trials, blacklisting, backroom threats, smear campaigns. Funny how, once he was
exposed as the bully that he was, he slunk away and died in alcoholic obscurity. A fitting end for a
    would-be tyrant.

Yes, the Soviet government was evil [2], but should American politicians lower themselves to the
same level? We're supposed to be better than that. Sadly, a lot of lessons have gone unlearned.

*sigh* Time to go for a ride, before I get more depressed.

[1] Communism as Marx envisioned it is, in my opinion, inherently unworkable. Communism as practiced
in the real world doesn't even vaguely resemble what Marx propounded, in spite of the rhetoric
used. It actually looks more like a fascist system taken to its utmost.

[2] An opinion I've held for decades. Years ago, I read, for example, Boris Levytsky's _The Uses of
Terror_, and Alexander Solzhenitsyn's _The Gulag Archepelago_. Ed, If you think I'm naïve about
the USSR, then you clearly don't have a clue.

I am calling a spade a spade. It was your attack on McCarthy that now reeks of demagoguery because

Granted it is a form of name calling but the liberals constantly get away with name calling and
everyone (the liberal media) always overlook it because of their so-called "good and noble"
intentions. Well, I am fed up with it and I am into name calling because the liberals are into name
calling and always have been my entire life.

The neocons are saving this country from what would otherwise be the new disasters emanating from
the left. Would you really want the left to be in charge of our national security when terrorists
are on the point of acquiring nuclear weapons?

Agreed. I am all for criticizing the leadership, but the kind of name calling that goes on in this
newsgroup is disgusting and vile. And these are not really stupid people that are doing this either
(although I call them stupid) but on the contrary are quite intelligent people. How do you account
for it? Maybe they are not such good people as you think.

You have to fight fire with fire. I always greatly sympathized with McCarthy. He got a bum rap. How
else were you going to alert the American people to the communist menace other than by kicking a few
butts? The Dems were asleep at the wheel and seemed not to take the communist conspiracy seriously -
the same way now that they did not take Saddam's Iraq seriously. Why are the Dems always so weak
when it comes to defending this country against it's enemies? McCarthy did not deserve to go out the
way he did. He was a tragic figure.

The Soviets were far more than evil. They were bent on world conquest. McCarthy woke us up to that
menace. How do you think they ever got nuclear weapons in the first place except by stealing our
secrets from us (the Rosenbergs)? We were infinitely better than the Soviets, but that does not mean
we should have let them walk all over us. World politics is often a nasty business and the main
thing is to see that the good guys (us) come out on top no matter what. Let me repeat that
    - no matter what.

You are quite right about that and it was precisely the reason why this country produced a McCarthy
and why he was so badly needed. The liberal left has never understood communism. They have always
sympathized with it. Communism was tried for over half a century by the most serious and
intellectual men that the world has ever known. They did not bungle it. It just does not work
because it goes against human nature. It is a utopian scheme just like perfect Christianity is a
utopian scheme. Almost all forms of government where coercion is the main factor goes back to the
earliest form of government of which we have knowledge, that of oriental despotism.

about the USSR, then you clearly don't have a clue.

No, I don't think you are naive about the Soviet Union but so many Americans of the intellectual and
academic left were extremely naive and many still are. The vilifying of McCarthy really ought to
stop now that there is no longer any excuse for being ignorant about that era of our history. When
you condemn McCarthy you lead others to believe that you are naive about communism.

I am calling the left treasonous because like Ann Coulter I believe they have consistently been on
the wrong side of history and there is really no other way to explain it. They do not like America
and the kind of freedoms that ordinary people have in this country. They are not much different
really than the communists in that they want to rule the people and the less the people have to say
about it the better as far as they are concerned. The intellectual left sees itself as a ruling
class. All they are interested in is exercising power. Did you see Ed Asner on the Hannity show the
other night? He is the most beautiful example of what a liberal is like when they are out of power
    - disgruntled and sour, mean and vicious, and politeness is out of the question.

I have noted posts from you in the past on off-topic subjects of a political nature and you are no

this kind of [censored] all the time and I am fed up with it. I want to be OT when the subject is not
recumbents but others (liberals) don't want it that way. I have to fight them on their own ground.
Please review this thread and you will see that I am right. To Mr. Sherman's credit he does not do
this sort of thing (inserting a political message in a thread that is related to recumbents).

By the way, I wouldn't mind hearing your opinions about the world's problems. As long as it is
    posted OT.

Was it halogen, HID or LED, and was the power source a battery or generator?

  19. Sort of holy light. I still hear from William Jennings Bryan from time to time.

Thank God you are here to expose these liberal lies. Lord knows the media will never do so.
That's because the corporations that control the media (GE, Fox, Westinghouse) are themselves
controlled by the same beings that control our world leaders. They will never allow their
conspiracy to come to light because on their homeworld they live a communist/collectivist
lifestyle due to their hive mind, and they will do anything to make sure we become their
    subjects. Trust no one.

The media are mostly liberal irrespective of who owns them. I have often wondered about this
myself. I think it is because they (the owners) only care about making money and the kind of
people who follow the media are mainly liberals (college educated people who have all been brain
washed by their professors). This college educated public that is the consumer of media are
actually quite ill educated and are mainly know nothings. As long as they get their daily dose of
liberal pablum and can then have correct thoughts about what to think they are as happy as babes
in arms. As to the owners of the media, they are like capitalists selling rope to the communists
with which they are someday going to be hanged. It is the morality of money which confuses
everyone - except me of course.

It has nothing to do with money. These beings don't even have money on their homeworld. It's about
being spared in the coming invasion.

    Keep the faith.
