getting to the nyc marathon expo before it really started enabled me to
have a conversation w/dk. based on photos...thought he was 6' for some
reason...i think they intensionally make him appear to be a bigger guy
in photos. if he's 5'8", it's by a hair.
talked about mental tactics in endurance running...he gave me some good
pointers. i then told him i'd like to clear something up once and for
all, the large hawaiian pizza, cheesecake, and cup of coffee....all
while running....should i take that literally or is there some slight
embellishment for sensation creation going on?
he grinned, laughed...and said, "no....that's what i do". i said,
"how exactly"? he said "the coffee goes in his camelback....and the
pizza....the key is to order thin crust only....ya see that way you can
roll it up and hold it in one hand like a burritto....you can't roll up
standard or thick crust pizza.....and I carry the cheesecake in my
other hand in the box like you would a book". he can be an animated
guy and tends to tell the story with visuals. he sold me as it being
plausible and the joke we kick around now about this is now ruined.
i believe the books characterizes this in a fashion to create a bit of
folk lore (i.e. carrying 2 round disc shaped items and a cup of coffee
to boot)....now he did not say this to me but i assume someone while
he's running hands him the coffee filled camelback...he put's it
on....he then is handed a prerolled up pizza for one hand, and a box
of cheesecake.
just popped up to solve this great mystery and lore of r.r.
