  1. My current dieting protein shake is pretty gross tasting: water, chocolate
whey, fish oil, flax oil, a bit of coconut oil, and a little creatine. Yuk.

Yesterday I discovered Torani Sugar Free Chocolate Syrup (comes in many
flavors). Splenda based, no calories, no fat, no carbs, no nothin', just
    chocolate flavor.

This morning's protein shake was EXCELLENT!

    Highly recommended.

Doesn't it have aspartame in it? I've heard bad things about that [censored].

    Splenda is not aspartame.

Cool. So how's the diet going? You didn't answer last time I asked. You
getting close to where you want to be?

When I got to 203, I took a 2 1/2 week break. In two days, my weight
increased to 212, 9 pounds of glycogen and water. Then slowly creeped
up to 216. Then I restarted the diet 10 days ago. Back to 203
    yesterday.

I think around 190 is still my goal. We'll have to see when I get
    there. Maybe I'll become anorexic.

I don't think I've ever heard of a male anorexic - wonder what the stats
are on that? Time for a little Google...

Well, I haven't hit the percentage of males as anorexics yet, but here's
a lovely tidbit we should post on rec.running:

!! Yates et al. (66) compared male marathon runners to anorectics and
    found
!! many similar sociocultural and personality characteristics. Runners
    were
!! found to have a bizzare preoccupation with food, and even when they
!! would achieve a lean body mass of 95 percent with only five percent
!! body fat, they would aim for four percent body fat.

    from http://www.ltspeed.com/bjblinder/anmales.htm

Sounds a little extreme in judgement, if you ask me. Just tested myself
with my Omron hand-held gadget. If I tell it my actual age, 50, it
tells me 13.6%, and if I tell it I'm 20 years old, it tells me 8.3% -
those numbers are several points less than when I was a regular runner
    and didn't lift.

Sorry, did I change the subject?

I think you've been trying to drop too fast. When dropping so fast, so much
of the loss isn't fat. But you already know that.

Now that you've lost quite a bit, why not settle in to lose 1-2 lbs per
    week? Is that an option?

And yes, Mocha is still cuter than the dickens. A regular part of the
family too. She loves my two boys that live with me on the weekends. When
we go to pick them up on Friday, she knows where we are and is straining out
the window as far as she can in anticipation. And when they get in the
truck, she proceeds to try to lick all the skin off their face. It's
hilarious to watch. And when I drop them off Monday morning, she whines as
we drive away. Of couse, she sleeps on Jake's bed when they're here.

Nope. Not on this diet. It's called a "protein sparing" modified fast for
good reason. Throughout this entire diet, my LBM has stayed remarkable
    stable.

    Quoted message said:

Now that you've lost quite a bit, why not settle in to lose 1-2 lbs per

Not for me. The way my willpower seems to work, I can do a modified fast for
substantial amounts of time, but find it very difficult to eat "just a
    little" below maintenance.

Phew. Wouldn't want to eat that. Its very dangerous. The FDA wanted
to block it but Reagan snuck it through via shady doings... Now, even
though Reagan is long gone, the FDA still can't ban it because of the

Further research found articles that say 5-10% of anorexics are male.
Same author speculated that anorexia goes undiagnosed in males far more
    often than in females.
