  1. I am getting constipated on account of 1500 grams of calcium a day
with Vitamin-D . I am using Metformin for my diabetes . Can I use
Psyllium for my constipation safely w/o any interaction with
the diabetic drug Metformin . Otherwise Pl. suggest a safe fiber
suppliment for my problem . My diet has plenty of fiber but
I think it is not helping .

Have you made any other changes?

    I know of quite a few diabetics on meds who use psyllium supplements;
you must take it with plenty of water, or it can constipate you. Ask
your pharmacist if there's a timing issue with metformin.

Add some magnesium, that could solve your problem. Magnesium deficiency is
pretty common, you know. If you add fiber also drink more water.

  4. The calcium is probably aggravating a magnesium defficiency anyway.

Why would anybody take calcium other than media hype?

The calcium is probably aggravating a magnesium defficiency anyway.

This is why it is best to NOT take a calcium supplement.
A balanced multi-mineral that contains Calcium, magnesium and
    phosphorous altogether is superior.

There are plenty on the market in liquid or capsule form.
I use "now" brand. Works for me.

    Cheers!

Calcium deficiency is COMMON. Also, about 1/3 of the people
are lactose intolerant to some degree, which means that dairy
products except sharp cheeses are not well tolerated.

The medical recommendations for calcium keep increasing.

  8. That's a complete crock and you have been totally brainwashed by the dairy
industry. Calcium deficiency is not all that common. Osteoporosis is becoming
more prevalent but those people are usually pissing out the calcium they have.

People that consume dairy typically have lower calcium levels due to the
    digestive irritation that milk affords.

There is more calcium in one tablespoon of sesame seeds than a gallon of milk.
Milk is a very poor source of calcium. Dairy is unbalanced, even if it could be
assimilated properly. (here come the cow kissing flamers)

  13. I very oftern eat that many sesame seeds, almost everyday. One sesame snack,
there are four to a personal serving package is an easy source. broccoli and
most vegetables are good vegetable, assimilable sources of calcium.

Shortages of calcium do not happen very often. Osteoporosis victims are flooded
with calcium as their bones "dump" it out.

    all?

Uh... No. And nobody "told" me that. I do have a chart that tells me what
vitamins and minerals are in what foods and what the RDA is for each.

Here is calcium: We need 1,000 to-1,500 mg each day. Natural sources are:
Skim milk, nonfat yogurt, kale, cheeses, collard greens, broccoli, figs,
calcium-fortified orange juice, carob, oats, prunes, asparagus, sesame
seeds, soybeans, tofu, watercress and whey.

Since I have diabetes, I do not consume fruit juice, figs, or oats. I do
not eat soy products because of a thyroid problem. Have a severe dislike
for collard greens, broccoli or asparagus. Can only tolerate kale in small
amounts. Have lactose intolerance so milk is out. Can't stand yogurt and
don't know of a source for whey unless I were to take whey powder. And I
don't. So that pretty much leaves cheese and watercress. Am not likely to
eat watercress in any quantity. And not likely to eat enough cheese each
    day to get my RDA.

But perhaps you do? Since your name is Pizza Girl, I presume you eat quite
    a lot of it!

If they are doing this, something else is wrong. Unless
quite low, blood levels of calcium are not much affected
    by dietary intake.

I am one who cannot assimilate much properly, except in the
form of hard cheese, and I disagree.

Cows have these extra stomachs so bacteria can convert
cellulose (the part of the grass we cannot digest at all)
into usable food. I believe these also break down the
oxalic acid in greens which binds to calcium and iron.

Nursing homes and early death. You see, people who break their hips often
end up in nursing homes or hte other side of the daisies faster than those
who don't. A lot faster. Something like 1/3 of people who break their hips
    die within a year.

    Calcium helps prevent broken hips.
