I had cause to smack, hard, the boot of a Ford Ka yesterday evening. I
can report:
(1) It made a loud noise.
(2) Dented.
Do tell...
Wasn't even cycling, but walking up the street where I live.
Bad ascii art follows:

I'm walking left to right, crossing the minor road, which is a one way
street, traffic down the screen only. I'm the "T" on the footway. "X"
is the Ford Ka. While I'm half way across the road, the Ka starts to
reverse - that is move to the left of your screen. I carry on
crossing. She then swings round into the road which I'm crossing, no
indicators, no regard for rules 178 or 182.
She gets nearer. I feel threatened. I move out of the way and whack
the boot at the same time with the flat of my hand. The whole thing
takes a couple of seconds. She looks at me like I've put my hand up
her frock, doesn't open the window, and drives off.
