    Either:
    1) You filter all the hulmet threads or
    2) You are quite new here or
    3) You believe hulmets have little to do with cycling.

BTW, this isn't a board... but rather a newsgroup. 🙂

I think it has a lot to do with the fact that cyclists tend to be more
likely to have strong and opposing opinions on things tangentially but not
directly related to cycling (like, say, gas prices and how they influence
the general population's views on cycling) than they are to have similarly
strong and opposing opinions on matters directly related to cycling.

There's a lot more thread in "This thing we disagree on is good/bad"
than in "This is how my last ride went".

that justifying the $800 bike thread is doin' ok. I definitely see
you're point. If it makes you feel better, it's 20x worse over at

Because there are a fair number of knowledgable bicycle people here that
can offer definate answers to the bicycle questions, thereby bringing
the threads to a satisfactory ending.

The non-bicycle topics tend not to be ended with facts, but just
continue on as more people add their opinions or a few people continue
to argue why their opinion is better without ever being able to convince
    those with differing opinions.

And every now and then Earnest T. Bass pipes in with his wacky ideas
that are then called into question, and Earnest simply must have the
    last word.

I think the longest threads do start out with something that has to do
with bicycles.....but just as cyclists tend to do...we ride down
unexplored paths to find the interesting or absurd. We run into people
who ride in Fat Suvs and other people who won't wear helmets. We stop
to chat. We forget why we started to ride. We forget where we are
going and why...we also forget or ignore the direction we had first
    decided to take.

Sights and sounds distract as from our original quest. We take a few
detours, we stop for awhile, we go in the quickie mart and talk to the
owner about the price of donuts. We run into Maggies who tell us about
purses and shoes and Pugent clouds who try to give us every inane
reason he has for disliking fat ass American in big fat suv.

We see non helmet people again and talk about that which eventually
leads to politics and party affliation. It is like being in Oz. We
are following the yellow brick road. We have no idea what we are going
to run into.....thus the thread changes and the topics go from here to
there. Sometimes more there than here.......Until finally it runs out
of steam and we are back home in bed and Aunty Em is asking
    us.......What's wrong dear.

Aunty Em, Aunty Em....I'm home...I'm home....There's no place like
    home.

    Fade to black....

    WHAT WAS THE QUESTION?

    Too far to throw.

This is supposed to be misc, not an exclusive roadies board, and I give
    you "MISC".

Who mentioned anything about roadies? Add why do you think everyone
that disagrees with you, or thinks you're an idiot, is a roadie? And
what's wrong with riding bikes on the road anyway?

Personally, I am hoping it turns into another ridiculous thread, which
evolves into something beyond bizarre, wacky and out of the ordinary.
I hope fat ass suv drivers come into play and an in depth discussion of
whether spandex in bright pink with splashes of purple and orange is in
vougue this year. (BTW - What is "in" this year in cycling clothes?)

I hope we turn another bend and the "road bike vs. mountain bike" issue
turns hostile. Alternatively, I do hope the 7000th discussion of
    "helmets" begins.

Of course, least we ever forget, we must have a banter of "get lost
Troll", "you're a Fred", and personal vendettas that go on and on in
post after post. I am so looking forward to it all.

Threads are a mystery.....or like a box of chocolates as Forrest Gump
would say....You never know what you will get. "And Thats All I'm
gonna say bout that." Cause Stupid is as stupid does. ;-)

So rave on all the lunatics on Misc....I love you with all my heart.
Those who don't take every word so seriously, and have a hell of a
sense of humor about riding. Riding is fun.

My boss is out of the office today and I am looking for some first-rate
    reading material.

BTW...the weather has been fabulous for riding here in Jersey. I went
riding last night and it was magnificent. Truly, truly magnificent. I
wore my jeans, a sweatshirt and my reeboks. True cyclist that I am.
;-) Just me, the sunset, the wind, and every suburbanite in town doing
the typical suburban things.....and to think I was on my way to Mexico
when I was 18. You never know where you are gonna end up. Do ya???

    Maggie

I say, Hey! You! Get off of my cloud
Hey! You! Get off of my cloud
Hey! You! Get off of my cloud

  18. Maggie, you're OK in my book! Love those ridiculous, off-topic threads.

Oh, no! The wounds there have already begun to heal as
each school discovers the training benefits of the other.
