  1. Dutchy, Ess, GPL, myself. At 7:25, GPL thought it was just us two.

Bit of slickness with the roads, and a tiny bit of drizzle up Clintons
road. At smith's gully, it rained a bit while we were inside (about
10 seconds after we sat down), but this disappeared well before we got
out. And to think that I looked at the radar in the morning just
hoping it was pissing down so I could have an excuse to stay in bed.

Cake report: OK, so last time, I determined the carrot cake was highly
recommendable. This time, the apple cake was OK, but a bit of a burnt
aftertaste. It was large and satisfying though (is that orgasm thread
still going? I don't know, my killfile has taken care of it).

On the time trial, I developed a stich which kept with me on and off
all the way to the bouli. I just throttled back whenever it happened.
I also recalled that was the biggest reason why I always loathed
running. I managed to miss the carni yelling out "pay road taxes".
Plenty of fools overtaking where there wasn't room, and one fool
coming around the corner on the wrong side of the road, doing about
    100km/h.

Dutchy: What do you mean yarra st is hard?

OK, so I cheated and used the small ring. Next time, I have to limit
    myself to the middle ring.

Geez I feel good. I knew it was going to be a good day when I hadn't
    bonked going up Kew boulavard.

No mishaps at all this week. Have to try harder next ride (probably
not next week - got an 160km MBTC ATB training ride I really want to
do. Do you reckon I can pick up 3 flaggons of port from the winery on
    my way past Bacchus Marsh?)

I do have to thank hurl-cowardly-abuse-skank-hoe for her reminder though. I
have paid my rego, but I'm yet to change the sticker on the windscreen.
I'll be sure to point this out to her next time I see her.. no doubt she is
    working drive-through somewhere at McBogans...

I'll have to petition local council to stick signs up on Yarra St - "Granny
gear IS a crime and users will be prosecuted"... 😉

    cheers,

    What's the size/weight of a barrel? 🙂

That size/weight. Shape: round. But you can't simply roll them along
in front of you and expect them not to break 🙂

Now this is a ride report - the report about the carrot cake preceded stories about TTs... 🙂

I'll now return to my terrible pain from r_nning a marathon today.

Out of curiousity, what kind of pace do you guys normally do? And can anyone turn up, I'm a MTBer who'd like to do some road training. Gets boring on my own 🙂.

Everyone is welcome*. Speed depends greatly on the group, the conditions,
and the full route taken... Wind is a biggest factor for my overall speed..
got some great averages with a northerly, but when there is a westerly or
southerly blowing it brings things down a few km/h...

    BR50 - 29.37
    BR52 - 30.03
    BR53 - 27.92
    BR55 - 26.90
    BR57 - 31.24
    BR58 - 28.37
    BR60 - 30.52
    BR64 - 28.32

Distance for me is around 90kms all up. I've posted the gradient maps of
the hills a few weeks back which should give you more of an idea about the
    route.

    cheers,
    GPL

On the same rides my averages are a little more modest:
    25.1
    26.2
    24.6
    25.8
    25.4
    25.7
    26.3
    24.5
    25.4

If you can do the distance, speed isn't that important.

The voices in my head keep telling me "if you go quicker this will be worth
posting on cycle2max"... Looks like c2m timing points are in order for
Clintons Rd too, it is about 6.4% and longer than 5mins...

So where were you today!? 🙂

Shortest version of the ride seems to be 72km+10km (10km for trip
between chady and doncaster starting point, so add whatever you want
there), and longest version seems to be 86+10km (including 2 laps of
kew crits, oh yeah, and one accidental detour down the road before the
the crit circuit). And there are many bailout points along the way.

Umm.. I don't time that 🙂.. For the next few weeks I'll be anti-social and
do non-stop BRs... club road champs are 90kms and I'm guessing there is no
friendly stop and chat at a local store..

BR64 was the first longish ride in a few weeks for me, and with some nut

thinking about the Clintons Rd timing route - Hows from the narrow bridge to
the very top left hand turn sound (there are two white posts about 10m
before this corner)... any takers? 1.85kms @ 6.3%...

Tim the hills make all the difference. I can average a fairly
comfortable 32kmh on my own on the flat in a triathlon (so no drafting)
but I consider anything above 25kmh on BR to be good going.

32 no drafting eh? I was doing 31 down warrigal road (slight downhill
all the way to the sea, a few undulations) no drafting. No fair 🙂

Tell ya what though, the hills after 120km on the audax started trying
me. Surprised the avg stayed as high as it did.

An interesting thing about the hills is that I get around 1300 meters climbed for a BR I think. But, I live in kensington, so I have 25 k to the start, so 50 return.
