Labor Day cooking

I had pan fried breaded chicken breast...whole green beans, grilled
zuchinni spears( in a marinate/baste) and roasted cauliflower (dusted with
penzey's bangkok blend).

Good news I'm glad some people will be OK.

I'm cooking a pork loin roast. Butterflied it, lined it with spices,
cheese, pepperoni, then tied it up. It is on the grill now with some hickory
and apple wood. Potatoes baking along side.

We had that yesterday, plus grilled bratwust and fruit salad.

Today, there was not much cooking going on here...two of the kids and I
were sick. I hope that they'll be better in time for the first day of
school tomorrow.

Meanwhile, after I had a good nap and felt ok to resume childcare duties
(pretty easy when they're just lying around), my husband headed out for
all-you-can-eat crabs with a couple of long-lost friends who are in town
for tonight. So at least somebody in our family is eating well tonight.

to live in Metairie. Lovely area!

Great holiday fare! I wish I had done that, but we were out of propane,
and so was the place where we usually get it.

Instead, I made a very "un-holiday" meal. A 5 boy chicken curry. I made
all the "boys", too. For desert we had a traditional Indian goat's milk
ice cream with rosewater and pistachios.

Very nice meal, but sure didn't feel like a holiday.

My cousins live in Metairie as well. Maybe their house was spared? They're
holed up in a hotel in MS, currently, but one of my cousins is still
missing. She was just diagnosed with breast cancer, too. We're still
awaiting news.

Congrats, Tara -- that's great news! You menu sounds lovely. I
didn't feel like much cooking, so I glazed a canned ham with
brown sugar, pineapple juice and mustard. Served with some au
gratin potatoes and garlic green beans...
