Nathan has been out on his bike this morning. A wasp got under his glove and
started stinging him. OW! His thumb joint is resembling a lamb shank ;-)
Still, he'll survive!

Done! Plus anti-inflammatory taken, plus not entirely sympathetic comment

Is that what the Japanese call a group of racing cyclists?

I got stung in a long-distance relay (running, not cycling) about a year
ago. Felt a sharp pain in my arm and noticed the wasp was actually stuck
to me via its sting. I flicked it away and the pain went shortly
thereafter and all I got a small red bump (and I has to remove the sting).
Every other time I've been stung I've had a good amount of swelling. Also
I've noticed that whenever I get stung by nettles when running or cycling
the effect is minimal. I think it must be the adrenalin counter-acting the
wasp/nettle stings in each case (am I making this up?).
The wasp sting certainly didn't affect my performace (not detrimentally
anyway) as I broke the leg record by 9 seconds.

Shhhhhh.....
They'll be banning them before you know it. Now where can I get some wasps
before next Saturday? ;-)

Nathan's wasp got stuck inside his glove and he had to physically pick it
off when he took his glove off as it refused to budge. he also had to remove
the sting (and wasp's bum)

Dunno - but Nathan's hand was well swollen today. Gone down a lot since
administration of antihistamine pill & topical anti-inflammatory gel.

Does this mean I should have a supply of wasps on hand to ensure Nathan does
a PB on Monday? Is this UCI legal?? ;-)

I trust you read the pack carefully and have not, inadvertently, given him
any 'performance enhancing' drugs. You don't want him failing a random test
at the next TT -- do you?

Doesn't seem to work that way for me with orienteering. Running through
nettles gives me itchy tingly legs for a couple of days, and the
unidentified flying monster that bit me at the last event gave me a
rather big elbow 🙁

So what type of drug does a awsp sting contain ;-)

Ignoring for a second the smiley...
If it surprises you, there will be an adrenaline response, and it's
possible that any endorphins will allow you to go a little bit further
before the pain threshold is passed.

In true UCI 'fashion' will the event organiser be controlling the
testing ;-)

Better not let the continental peloton know about this ;-)

He has my sympathy. On Thursday last I set out for my usual ride and got
stung on the tongue by a wasp or bee which flew into my open mouth and
deposited its sting before I managed to spit it out. So instead of enjoying
the lovely sunny morning, I spent most of it sitting on a bed in the local
A&E while they pumped hydro-cortisone and Piriton into me to reduce my
severely swollen and painful tongue. I'm not allergic to stings, but the
young doctor clearly had never encountered a case like mine. After
consulting his senior, they decided to treat me and keep me there for a
couple of hours to be on the safe side. Must learn to keep my mouth shut!

Could it have been a piglet? It may have accidentally caught your
elbow in its little snout.
We get them in the woods here.
Best wishes,

I recently got some nasty stinging insect caught between the bridge of
my nose and my sunglasses during a decent. Fortunately it didn't find
its way into my eyes before I wipped off the glasses and removed it. I
wasn't badly stung, but I'll be wearing more closely-fitting glasses
when cycling from now on.
