Nathan has been out on his bike this morning. A wasp got under his glove
    and
started stinging him. OW! His thumb joint is resembling a lamb shank ;-)

    Eek!

    Still, he'll survive!

    Thank goodness he's not allergic!

    Vicious little sod, yer wopse.

Must admit, I do not like wopses. Nathan's hand is back to normal now... so
he absolutely no excuse for getting out of washing up....

    Cheers, helen s

  2. Another good argument against Martlehats - on several occasions I have
had insects go in through the vents and scrabble around on my (bald, I
fear) pate. Each time I have wobbled around grabbing at my helmet,
putting myself at risk of falling off or getting mashed by a car.

Careful, it could trigger a relapse! Washing up is a high risk activity,
one which I got to great lengths not to expose myself to 🙂

What is this "washing up" you speak of?

Every other time I've been stung I've had a good amount of swelling. Also
I've noticed that whenever I get stung by nettles when running or cycling
the effect is minimal. I think it must be the adrenalin counter-acting the
wasp/nettle stings in each case (am I making this up?).

Doesn't seem to work that way for me with orienteering. Running through
nettles gives me itchy tingly legs for a couple of days, and the
unidentified flying monster that bit me at the last event gave me a
    rather big elbow 🙁

I don't know an orienteer who doesn't have tingling legs for days. It
probably has something to do with just how many nettle stings orienteers
get, both thighs being covered in stings is fairly normal for me. The
bramble scratches don't exactly help with the healing process!

I wish mine just tingled! I've only done two recently, and admittedly they
were 24hr Rogaines (heavy duty orienteering), but each time I've been
hobbling around for a couple of days afterwards. Mind you, I've now had the
problem diagnosed as a tight Illiotibial Band, so my future contains LOTS
    of stretching exercises.
