  1. How about steam cooking?

    http://www.sharpusa.com/products/ModelLanding/0,1058,1539,00.html

I cannot imagine this doing a roast or burgers or even chicken to my liking.
But it says it grills and roasts.

I can't imagine it either, but it might have some other interesting
applications. Seems sort of like a pressure cooker without the pressure.

Curiosity got the better of me. $1,299.00 is a bit steep, although
the brochure says it produces "light and crispy frozen pizza"! Who
    could resist?

Isn't that what the oven or toaster oven is for? 😉

I would have to eat a hell of a lot of frozen pizzas to justify the price of
that thing. It's funny but from the description I don't see how it could
"roast" or "grill" anything, let alone produce something that is "browned".

People had the same skepticism about the first microwave ovens, they
cost about the same too... now just about eveyone has at least one...
and typical cost is under a hundred bux. At $1,300 a pop I don't think
I'd be one of the first to try it but many people will (an awful lot of
folks paid a Grand for the first TI LED watch). If this contraption
proves itself it won't be too very long before supply will hardly keep
up with demand and the cost will go way down. And anyway, folks these
days think nothing of spending more just on a kitchen than they do all
the rest of their house combined. These days $3,000 gas grills are
common, more shiny stainless than a D'Lorean, and all they cook are
mystery meat boogers and tube steak. Build them and they will come.

Or, for that matter, "light and crispy". "Crispy" in steam?

If it weren't so expensive, it might be very nice to have for cooking
things that clearly benefit from steam. A downside, for sure, is yet
another bulky appliance taking up counter space.

I only steam chicken and fish, and occasionally pork if I've marinated
it well. I would _never_ steam beef. :-P

But there is a famous burger joint somewhere in the USA that steams
    hamburgers... in Ohio maybe?

I steam duck... but do so in a tall pot and steam it over white wine. The
fat drips off and when the duck is cooked it goes under the broiler just
    enuf to crisp the skin.

I usually roast duck, but have had steamed duck at the thai place.
They steam duck hindquarters and put them whole into a bowl of duck
stock with noodles and fresh veggies. It's quite good!

I love duck..... In fact, I have one in the freezer I probably should
cook next weekend since it's been in there for awhile! Thanks for the
    reminder. :-)

Iowa has the steamed "loose meat" sandwiches. Can't get my mind around that
even though a lot of people claim it's fantastic.
