  1. Hellow Carbers!

    A quick update.

Wanted to check in and tell you guys I had achieved my goal at 235 and
holding steady for a month or so now. Went a bit below it by 5 pounds
or so, then balanced out at this level. Came originally from 320, and
parked for a couple of years at 285. Started Jan 1, 2005 at 285 and
6'4" and now at 235. Still the same height🙂

I'm happy with the results, generally. Health wise it has been a full
success. Blood pressure and blood sugar normal now with no pills. I'm
now concentrating on sculpting and have no desire to be any skinnier.

Psychologically however, this has been a disaster. Ok. That's an
overstatement. It just does not feel right. People still tell me how
great I look and health and blah blah blah. It is getting REALLY old.
And the fact that I'm a fat guy in a 'normal' body, just sucks. It is
very hard to explain. No false bragging involved here.

So I suppose, the psychological adjustments are just as difficult as
losing the weight. I know it will all smooth out. But it's a lifetime's
knowing how you are. How your body and mind feels. It's a [censored] to re
learn. But I'll stick with it🙂

Wish you all the best, and I will check in from time to time. I have
been very busy in a new job. Lots of travel and lots of hard work.

"A fat guy in a normal body"? I'm curious.

One of them is having ribs🙂 I've never had ribs. They bruise while
sleeping. Had to buy that 3" thick special foam padding to deal with that.
But that's on the physical part.

The psychological issue is that I'm aware of myself as a normal person.
Almost - not significant, or noticeable. And what I would not have given
many times in my life if people did not notice me for my size!!

It's a weird feeling that is almost too difficult to describe with words.
Like - being a pickpocket in a Nudist Camp. Out of sorts🙂 Not knowing what
    the heck is up.

It has been getting better. But it is hard work. In my mind, I was just
damn fine the way I was. I blamed society for wanting me not fat. Of course
that's hogwash. But it's a lingering feeling of having to deal with
yourself at this very drastic level. Body change. Life style change.
Relationships change as well. Some for the better. Some not. I've actually
detected jealousy from an ex colleague, who always kind of smiled at how
fat I was. Standing next to him now, we were about the same size. He seemed
to hate it. There were few words spoken.

    Dang. You had to ask🙂

  8. Thanks. Interesting. When I lost my 45 3 years ago, for the next year,
everyone remarked about my weight loss. Even as I gained some back, I
guess I was fixed as "overweight" in the hearts and minds.

On the relationship thing, I think my weightloss revealed the things
that didn't work in my relationship with my ex-girlfriend. Deep down, I
always felt that there was something wrong with the relationship, but
we were always doing pretty well. We dieted together, I lost pretty
fast on a tall frame (9 lbs a month over 5 months, on 6'2" makes a big
difference). She lost a lot less, and needed to lose probably as much.
When I made it, it created a lot of tension. When we moved to Missouri,
she helped me sabotage my way out of working the program. I definitely
made it not work, but that failure was made a lot easier because I
think she felt that she could hang with 250 lbs Max a lot easier than
210 lbs Max. Eventually, we broke up, with an oddly light amount of
emotional damage on my part. I think, deep down, I was happy to be
loosed from the expectation of being fat with this weird pressure to
try to lose weight and fail. I look at the whole experience as
something that helps you sort your acquaintences into those that are
real and those that have weird emotional needs for you to be unhealty,
    or jolly or whatever.

-Hollywood, assured it'll all work out better than it would have when
    you topped 300

  11. I know exactly what you mean, Perdu---Ive always thought of myself as
fat. When I look at pictures of me at 20, 25, 30....I see I really was
NOT. Yet I remember feeling fat at those times. When I look at pics
    taken a couple of years ago, I think,"my God....am I THAT fat?"

I think it's very difficult to "know", internally how big/small we are
externhally. I guess this is how the anorexic looks in the mnirror and
sees fat, while the world sees starvation victim. If we have felt fat
all our lives....it may take more than the loss of our weight to EVEr
    make us feel thin.

Kirsty Allie comes to mind---I was watching Fat Actress last
night....and you can tell that even tho she IS fat....she still carries
herself and behaves like a gorgeous woman, used to being admired. She
"feels" like a thin woman, despite her exterior poundage.

    Must be nice....

  12. I always find these discussions interesting. I'm the opposite, I always see
myself as thin, even when I'm fat. I suspect this may be because I was a
thin child, skinny even, just right as a teen, so I suspect that is where my
body image was set. When I was young the current super thinness was not the
fashion. Marilyn Monroe was more the ideal. Gained with my pregnancies but
always was able to lose it just by eating less. It wasn't until my late 40s
that I got tired of eating less and said to hell with it. On LC I have gone
from 292 to 230 and am really happy there. I have pretty much lost my
double chin and a lot of my belly. Feel better. So I lack motivation to
work any harder at cutting calories or exercising. But I continue to eat LC
at about 40-45 grams a day as I don't gain, either, and don't see that
    changing.

Very much so. People get established at an early age.

I feel I have excellent control and very comfortable with the amount
of carbs and food I eat. around 20 to 40 carbs a day, or less at times. I
have to actually watch to add carbs or I stall. Have to find the exact spot
where you do not start gaining back. As well as knowing that getting a few
pounds back is normal , when you start climbing out of induction levels.
Which I had stayed all along with.

Most importantly, the weight loss has established a physical equilibrium.
But as I had said, emotionally and psychologically this has not been easy.

I have settled down at the weight and new clothes and find myself still
as a fat person. Thinking I need to lose weight. And on the other hand, I'm
not sure what to make of the new body image. A very odd set of
    circumstances.

A cliche about men and women's body images:

A woman's body image is the worst of the last decade, taken
one detail at a time. That bruise 6 years ago, the max
weight in the last decade, the worst outfit in the last decade
    and so on.

A man's body image is what he saw in the mirror this morning
while shaving. So all men are shirtless, need a shave, have
mussed hair and such, but the height and weight and so on is
    today's.

She has been goreous except when unhealthy. She is one
person who appears to understand that weight has zero to
    do with the issue.
