a similar thing happened to me on Sunday; it just so happened that I'd
started a downhill section when I noticed the yoof behind me on his L-
plated 50cc moped try to overtake me. Up into the big ring and bring the
speedo up to 30+ mph, as he gives the engine all it's got and slowly
draws along side me. At this point I look him right in the face and give
him a big grin - he looked most put out!

Of course, he left me behind at the next uphill, but the look on his
    face was priceless 🙂

  2. Went out on the local CTC ride.

Cycled over to Heydon & back, a 46-mile round trip. Went over there alone,
met with the CTC crowd there, had lunch & we cycled back in various groups,
people peeling off at various stages of the ride (journey, not peeling off
of clothes, I hasten to add...).

Anyhow, at one stage it was yours truly plus George & err... Andy/Alan...
Both guys are in their 70s. Got to one Norfik village and at a T-junction, a
group of local yoof on MTBs were there. Loud yoof voices, saying, "Oh yes,
this has made my day, I can't believe my luck. This is going to be sooo
easy." Apparently yoof thought it was going to be a doddle to speed by the
two ancient guys & the middle-aged women. Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. Yoof
are not aware of CTC uber-pensioners and the oestrogen brigade and how road
bikes are faster on tarmac compared to MTBs... The gauntlet was thrown down
as I heard the unmistakeable sound of gears being changed and chainwheel
change up to big rings in respect of my two companions. So I thought I'd
better get a spurt on too, so as not to let the side down ;-) Of
half-a-dozen yoof, only one got anywhere near us. As he got alongside me, I
said, "Afternoon. Nice bike, but if you speak nicely to either of those nice
gentlemen in front, I'm sure they'd adjust your saddle to the correct height
so you don't ruin your knees." I then upped a gear & went ahead. There was
much whirring of pedals behind me fading into the receding distance.

It was a moment to savour.

    Cheers, helen s

Heh... I look forward to the day when I might be able to do that... 🙂

For a moment there I thought the ride was going to end up with a group
of CTC members dancing nekkid around the back garden burning effigies of
    Cl*rks*n or similar.

And how long have you been cycling now? Two, three years? Less?

You've come a long way from where you first started and now clocking
up 100k and 46m at a time you've caught up and passed many in here.

    Let alone the yoofs!

    Well done!

    Still against the bib shorts?

Or has the conversion been complete?

Back to cycling?? About three years.

I'm distinctly not fast, but if I stick at 11-12mph average, I can pootle
along all day with reasonable refreshment stops ;-)

Indeed today, as I was trundling along behind Nathan, this nice chappie in a
Foska Marmite jersey and riding a nice, shiny new Trek appeared alongside.
He introduced himself by saying something like, "Yellow Lycra on a Bianchi,
you must be Helen" It was that nice Chris chappie of this NG, so we passed
the time of day for a few minutes as we cycled along before he peeled off in
    a different direction.

Nathan was out on his shiny Cervelo, whilst kitted out in CSC kit, in
proto-Basso mode... Did 41-miles today. Cycling with Nathan on a pootle for
him is a definite workout for me (OWW!). Nathan saying, "Mum, this what you
need to do when you time trial next season.." Like, no, son, your mother
will not be TT-ing next season...
