    Not much of a discussion, really, unless I'm missing the main one. Go
    to Training > Endurance Training > Fiber Conversion.

    Is fiber conversion a constant process? For example, if I trained on the
    bike for endurance one year, then went back to PL the next year, and
    then back to the bike the next year, would the fibers keep converting
    back and forth?

    competition when she was like 11 years old.

    true. But fibers show incredible plasticity. If you detrain for long
    enough, for example, they will revert from IIa to IIx (which is
    basically the 'default' Type II isoform). So conversion back and forth
    by changing stimuli should be no problem.

    I suspect John and I are in much the same boat. People say, "Geez. For a
    47 year old that guy can move." I played a slo-pitch game with guys my
    age last night and I still suprise people with my speed. Partially
    because with the weight I carry the expectation is lowered. But in the
    bar afterwards there was some discsussion of our team folding after this
    season, but certain players would be picked up. Our captain said I'd be
    picked up because I'm "the fastest guy in the league."

    OTOH I played a 1st division rugby game on Saturday and had a young guy
    blow by me and barely got a finger on him. It's all relative and
    subjective. You really shouldn't concern yourself with what people say
    on things like this. Some of us who have trained and competed over the
    years have an appreciation for your accomplishments. Others belittle
    them, but I'm reminded of the immortal words of Teddy Roosevelt.

    "It's not the critic who counts, not the man who points out how the
    strong man stumbled, or when the doer of deeds could have done better.
    The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena; whose face
    is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs

    instructions on how to break the code either.

    So I figured, if they want to make their forum/website a great mystery, they

    I used to go over there now and then. I would try to crawl through their
    many forum topics. The last twenty or so times I went over there, I could
    not get into the forums. I tried valiantly. There were no particular

    I went over there again and punched every button I could find. I finally

    That subdivision is what bothers me most. Most of the forums seem to
    be filled with inane banter, so I don't even enter them; however, some
    have an occasional bit of interesting discussion. Unfortunately, the
    indexes only show the last post in a given forum or under a specific
    subject header, and if the name/ID of the person posting is someone who
    just likes to drop one-liners with nothing interesting to say, I'm not
    going to trace it backward.

    The nice thing about Usenet and a good newsreader (even Google Groups)
    is that you can look under interesting subject headers and see all the
    names of those who posted under it. If I find the name of someone who
    usually has something interesting to say, I can read just that post,
    and if necessary, back-trace the subthread.

    Have you seen a magazine called "Geezer Jock"? I don't know where the
    subscription came from, but we started getting it a few months ago and
    it's really cool how much "masters" stuff is going on. My husband just
    turned 50 and he is really enjoying "master's badminton." It's nice
    that there's an emerging arena for us.

    I feel the same way. I was so incredibly inspired by going to watch a
    caber toss at Highland Games (Wayne was in) last summer. These guys
    (and women) go onto the field planning on tossing a honking big
    telephone pole end over end. 99% of the time they fail, like duh. But
    once in a while... someone does it. And it's a sight to behold. I
    really really respected those guys for being on the field trying to do
    the damn-near-impossible.

    I haven't been there in a while. Not only does the navigation suck,
    it's been boring as hell there lately. MFW is actually coming back
    alive now and this is much more preferable. I do like how I seem to
    irritate the hell out of Lyle though.
