  1. Why isn't there a universal method for representing the terrain and difficulty of bike paths/routes
in the form of a graph like the one below?

    ____________________etc. _____________/ / ____/

That way, one could become familiar with the basic configuration of a ride that is comfortable for
him/her and compare it to the visual representation of another ride.

The depth and duration of climbs can even be represented by crosslines on the graph. Has this
already been done? Am I just naive?

  2. Perhaps you could explain what rises/runs are represented by your 'graph'.

Are you talking about elevation profiles? Any topo map software will generate these if you want. The
map kiosks at some sporting goods/outdoor stores probably will generate elevation profiles also.

  6. Which means it wouldn't work. I loved the camera angle on the Tourwhen Tyler Hamilton won the
mountain stage. They made it look like the riders were going up a 60 degree slope. I suspect in
reallife the rise would be tiny compared to the run and the graph would have to be huge to see
    any up/down.

I loved it too, Doug. Sadly, a quick glance at the road-side spectators standing at about 30 degrees
from the vertical made me realise that the riders weren't multi-mega-superhuman. They were only
    semi-multi-mega-superhuman.

  9. 8 days ago, I ordered some small items from Performance Bike catalog, via telephone. I called today
to inquire about the order, the woman I spoke to seemed not to care less that I hadn't received the
order and said standard shipping (which I paid for) takes up to 10 days. I was trygin to be very
nice and said that such a delay really isn't good customer service - She stated something to the
effect if I don't like the service, I don't have to shop there. I then said I probably wouldn't and
would go to Nashbar in the future - She said fine, they are just as slow. I held my tongue.

So I got off the phone totally steamed knowing I would never again purchase anything from
Performance Bike and Feel like screaming that Performance Bikes Sucks, but I won't I am wondering if
others have had poor service or performance from them.

    Cheers rixz

  10. I've ordered stuff from them and it's always been fine. Of course, she had no right to be rude to
you - maybe she was having a bad day.

Wow. I can't imagine any company allowing somebody like that to stay on, unless they didn't know
that they HAD somebody like that.

You should try calling back and speak to a manager; let them know about your experience. While I've
never dealt with Performance, I'd wager that they'd try to do something to make it up to you; and
further, they would certainly want to do something about that bad employee. When I had a problem
with Nashbar, they were eager to satisfy me, like most businesses are to dissatisfied customers.

If nobody ever tells them, then they may never know.

If customers would tell managers when they have had bad service -- or good service! -- then those
businesses could serve their customers that much better.

  12. I've ordered quite a bit from Performance, and never had a problem. They always seem to have the
lowest, or close to the lowest prices on the items I'm looking for. If you join Team Performance for
$20 a year, you get 10% back from your purchases, and a free 2nd day air shipping upgrade. I've made
up the $20 fee many times over bye now, and packages are always at my door in 2 days.

This has been my experience with them.

    Nashbar is owned by Performance

    As is SuperGo.

10 days is not unusual for catalog mail-order though. It goes with the territory. I've been ordering
from Performance and Nashbar catalogs since 1987. I've never had a problem except for a couple of
back-ordered items a very long time ago and even then, they didn't charge me and they were totally
up front about the back-order situation.

The phone service lady probably should have been more tactful but I think the OP has things a little
    out of proportion.

Well, seeing as how they are now the same company, she might be right. But I have never had a
problem with either company. Things were always delivered as soon, or sooner, than they promised.

I placed an order with Cambria on Saturday. I called Thursday afternoon to see about a tracking
number and what-not. I was informed that they should be putting the order together today and it
should ship by Friday. I was so [censored] I had steam coming out my ears. The guy caved and gave me 2nd
Day Air, which puts it on my doorstep Monday, but sheesh. Three days (not counting Monday) to put an
order together? He said they were slow right now. I guess the #@&! so.

I just got an email from them with a tracking number and it's on the way. I'd only order from them
again if they were the last place on earth that had what I needed. That may sound harsh, but there
are lots of internet bike shops out there that want business. When they get some, they should act
like they are grateful to have it by getting your order out in a timely fashion. Otherwise, I
won't waste my time with them again. I'll gladly pay the other guy a little more if he offers
    better service.

Are you a MORON? You chose standard shipping, which can take up to 10 days, then chose to complain 8
    days into the process? Unreal.

I've been ordering from Performance since the 80s, and have always been pleased with their customer
service and quality. I've never had a late order, and never had a problem with a return. Seems to me
like you are hacked off because you didn't get your order when you wanted it, even though you knew
it could take up to 10 days. Next time, if you're in such a hurry, opt for two day service.

I recently ordered some shoes from Performance and didn't seem to have a problem. I ordered them
online and if I remember correctly, the options for "standard" shipping were US Mail or Fed Ex
Ground (same price). Of course I chose Fed ex Ground. Ordered the Thursday before Labor day and
received the Wednesday after - not bad.

The only problem was they didn't send a shipping number so that I could track it. I asked them via
email and they sent one immediately.

I would report the bad service to a manager. Every company understands that one bad CS rep can cause
all sort of problems and potentially lose hundreds of customers. In fact - copy your email (and
possible reponses) and send to an CS manager. That way they now exactly how many people may have
seen it. The bad publicity just may earn you something free!

  19. I have placed numerous orders with Performance and have been pleased with their Customer Service &
    Handling/Shipping (I joined Team Performance for $20 & get 2nd day shipping + 10% credit for future
orders). I typically place orders via the internet but if it's late in the day, I place them via
telephone to ensure they are processed and shipped the same day.

The only problem that I ran into was ordering a Camelbak(plus other items) on Wed for a ride that
weekend. With Team Performance 2nd day shipping, I knew that it would arrive on Friday. I called to
get a tracking # and was told that the Camelbak was backordered initially but ended up shipping late
Wednesday via standard USPS mail(which is their policy for backorders). I explained the
situation(needing it for a weekend ride) and they couldn't have been nicer. The CS rep offered to
send out another Camelbak via next day air only charging my card for the xtra Camelbak(no shipping
charge). She also sent out a free shipping card for my next order to make up for the hassle.
Additionally, they offered to handle the return shipping for the original Camelbak when it arrived
via snail mail(I ended up selling it to a buddy of mine who needed one).

Bottom line is that they have always been very responsive & the above incident did not have to go to
a manager to get handled in an A++ manner.

I'm sure that they would not want an unsatisfied customer~If you were to call and speak to someone
else(possibly a manager), they will make it right. Most likely, they will offer free shipping on
    your next order.

    Best of luck- DIG
