They're having a big sale. Probably very busy. You're right - it's not good customer service; but
Performance generally does offer good values and reasonable shipment. I've had more problems in
recent years with Nashbar (hint: ALWAYS call, NEVER use the website)

Performance does respond to complaints. I received terrible service at one of their Chicago area
stores a few years back. I ended up talking with the district manager, and she said heads would
roll. They did: The next time I went into that store, it had all new staff and management. How much
of a role did I play in that? No way to tell; but the district manager said they'd been having quite
a few complaints there. She even sent me a $20 gift certificate for my trouble. Now *that* is a
company that takes care of their customers.

Both companies have fantastic sale prices, and generally keep most everything in stock. It's worth a
little hassle, and a little wait sometimes to get an amazing deal, or two, or three.

I placed an order with Cambria on Saturday. I called Thursday afternoon to see about a tracking
number and what-not. I was informed that they should be putting the order together today and it
should ship by Friday. I was so [censored] I had steam coming out my ears. The guy caved and gave me
2nd Day Air, which puts it on my doorstep Monday, but sheesh. Three days (not counting Monday) to
put an order together? He said they were slow right now. I guess the #@&! so.

I just got an email from them with a tracking number and it's on the way. I'd only order from them
again if they were the last place on earth that had what I needed. That may sound harsh, but there
are lots of internet bike shops out there that want business. When they get some, they should act
like they are grateful to have it by getting your order out in a timely fashion. Otherwise, I
won't waste my time with them again. I'll gladly pay the other guy a little more if he offers
    better service.

I just love you mail order junkies. You want it all ... best prices in the country and top service
    to boot! What a hoot!!!!

I have placed numerous orders with Performance and have been pleased with their Customer Service &
    Handling/Shipping (I joined Team Performance for $20 & get 2nd day shipping + 10% credit for
future orders). I typically place orders via the internet but if it's late in the day, I place
them via telephone to ensure they are processed and shipped the same day.

The only problem that I ran into was ordering a Camelbak(plus other items) on Wed for a ride that
weekend. With Team Performance 2nd day shipping, I knew that it would arrive on Friday. I called
to get a tracking # and was told that the Camelbak was backordered initially but ended up shipping
late Wednesday via standard USPS mail(which is their policy for backorders). I explained the
situation(needing it for a weekend ride) and they couldn't have been nicer. The CS rep offered to
send out another Camelbak via next day air only charging my card for the xtra Camelbak(no shipping
charge). She also sent out a free shipping card for my next order to make up for the hassle.
Additionally, they offered to handle the return shipping for the original Camelbak when it arrived
via snail mail(I ended up selling it to a buddy of mine who needed one).

Bottom line is that they have always been very responsive & the above incident did not have to go
to a manager to get handled in an A++ manner.

I'm sure that they would not want an unsatisfied customer~If you were to call and speak to someone
else(possibly a manager), they will make it right. Most likely, they will offer free shipping on
    your next order.

    Best of luck- DIG

Been a team performance member for a few years now... Great customer service and they price
match, you just have to call them or write them a note if you order through the web.. Return
policy is the best in the business...

Not sure if customer service would be different for non team members...

This has nothing to do with customer service. It has more to do with your mis-perception of what
'standard shipping' entails. With Performance it is almost always UPS ground. Takes Performance 1-3
days to get the package together and to UPS, then up to a week for UPS to transport the package from
North Carolina to wherever you live (west or west coast, I bet). UPS ground just does not move any
faster, no matter how much you think it should. The answer is not on the Performance end, it is on
your end; if you want it faster pony up and pay for faster shipping. Hint: if you pay $20/year for
their Team Performance membership you get automatic shipping upgrades to 2nd day air; takes only a
couple of orders to cover the cost, and you get 'points' which are redeemable for merchandise
(basically, after a few orders you are in effect getting a 10% discount through the points).

  6. I was a Team Performance member for about 4 years - Always seemed to have pretty good service,
though it didn't really seem to be much benefit for the 2-3 orders I place per year. I had thought
about renewing my Team membership this time around and decided not to. It didn't even occur to me
that it could take up to 10 days to receive an order - Or that they wouldn't even fill it until
later in the week. Having dealt with LL Bean, Lands End, REI, EMS, Campmor and a few others over the
years, I became accustom to some pretty decent service for paying just a nominal shipping charge of
less than $10. Items are usually received in 2-3 days max.

Part of the order was received today (Friday) - I called PBS and spoke with another woman and she
was extremely nice and very helpful. She did mention that it took 3 days to fill the order and all
items were in stock (3 items - less than $50), which most folks in customer service will tell you -
is pretty slow. Also, the order came via US mail - They didn't use Fedex Ground as I was told by the
other CSR. Apparently, PBS moves the orders to the top of the order pickers' priority if you pay the
additional S/H. all other orders "languish" as low priority - And therein lies the problem. If I am
a paying customer, I'd like my order filled as soon as possible - not based on how much I paid or
didn't pay for standard shipping. If they don't have enough pickers to keep up with the volume -
Well if you are another bike catalogue retailer out there, here is a way to do better than PBS!

S'cool if you like PBS, but I think I'll stick to other sources in the future.

Sounds to me like the OP was unpleasant in his demeanor. Imagine, he knows his item could take up to
10 days to ship, but he calls and harangues some poor Performance rep because it hasn't arrived in 8
days. Then he makes a snotty comment about how the delay isn't good for business. What a jerk. It's
not Performance's fault if the carrier takes a while to get it to him UPS ground.

All true -- but: Nobody ever won an argument with a customer.

  10. both perform and nashbar are owned by performance.

nashbar has better prices, but service has degraded. shipping takes a week from oh to nj and returns
    take forever.

watch the web coupons, even if you use, they don't always apply the credit

I have had a much different experience. On two recent orders, I paid for 2-day shipping but received
my order the *next day* (NW Arkansas destination). Clearly, Nashbar picks, packs and ships orders
    very promptly.

    Quoted message said:

If you use the website, you can see if the credit is applied before you pay for the order. On the
two recent orders, the credit was properly applied.

  12. Maybe they were just having a bad day.

A few years ago, I ordered 3 pairs of socks from Performance. I tried one pair, and found them to be
too small. I returned the 2 unused pairs, and they sent me 3 pairs in return. I was only expecting
    to get 2 in exchange.

I still order from them occasionally, and a little bit of consideration can go a long way.

I ordered a helmet for my son last spring. It was too small and I used their measurements when I
chose the size. I called and asked for a postage paid return label (because after 20 yrs at the PO I
know EVERYONE has them) and they told me no, they only give them out if the order was wrong because
of something they did. Ok, but if I have your label then I can just leave the box for the mailman
and not have to go to the PO (since I don't work there anymore). I mean, catalogs are supposed to be
convenient right? Not so with Performance. Shoulda gone to LBS anyhow. Ellen
