Some jerk just deliberately ran over my pregnant cat right in front of
my 6 year old daughter and then took off when I went after him. Poor
kitty, wasn't even a clean kill. Why are some people such jerks?

I'm so sorry about your cat, but what was it doing
outside?

Sorry to hear about the cat. What was it doing in the street?

Next time keep the friggin' cat in the house or on your property. You
are as resposible for the incident as the driver. You deliberately
allowed the cat to roam in a danger zone. Why are you such a jerk?
TC
My God. That's....horrible. saw my dog get hit when I was about 7 and
it was really traumatic. I hope your daughter is OK. I hope the SOB
who hit the cat pays in mucho suffering of his own.
Sorry for the loss of your kitty, too. I know how it feels and it
sucks.
Two years ago I let my dogs out for their morning run and half an hour
later they al came back....sick, puking, then went into convulsions and
died. My yard looked like Jonestown---four dogs, all dying horribly of
poisoning by some cracker jerk-off neighbor.
That people like this get to walk around breathing air....really gets
me. I like to think the Karma of this act has created, say, stomach
cancer in the guy. I hope something similar for the murderer of your
kitty.

Keeping a cat imprisoned all it's life inside is just as cruel as
running over her on purpose.
Humans respecting the rights of animals to enjoy a normal life,
including going outside is the answer---not imprisonment of the animal
to protect it from dangerous humans.
I have to imprison my dogs, now, even here in the "country"...---thanks
to one poison-happy human who seriously needs an attitude adjustment
with a lead pipe.

Uh, no it isn't.

I think responsible pet owners do their best to keep their companions
safe. If it means visiting a dog park, lots of walks, fencing your
yard, do it.

Poisoning an animal rather than calling the police on you if
conversation failed was the wrong thing to do, and inhumane. Letting
your dogs run outside in a community of other homes is not only illegal,
it's rude and irresponsible.
How about putting up a fence or other type of enclosure and stop using
your neighbor's property for a dog toilet or playground?

Then don't get one.
Here are your choices
1) let them be a nuisance to the neighborhood and be at risk
2) restrict them to you property, however you chose to do it
or
3) don't get one in the first place.

How about humans respecting other humans right to not have their cats
pissing in their flower bed or in their childs sand box. How about the
right to not have to listen to the neighbors dog bark all friggin
night. Or the right to not have to worry about their children being bit
or attacked by roaming pets.

Your choice, restrict their movements to your property or leave them
out at risk of being taken care of by other landowners in the area.
Have you ever seen deer run to death by a pack of domesticated dogs? I
have and it ain't a pretty site. Your animals are you responsibility,
you deal with it however you must. If you don't, you are being
irresponsible and are forcing others to have to deal with them. You are
placing your animals at risk by allowing them to roam freely.
TC
We have a back yard with a high fence topped with a netting arrangement
which keeps cats in/out. Our cats can enjoy the outdoors without risking
the dangers they would encounter on the streets. Not everyone can have
their back yard totally fenced, but you can build a cat run or screened area
that serves the same purpose.

Or letting the dog run free to chase cyclist....

Oy, yes. An acquaintance of mine had her arm completely shattered after
being knocked down on her bike *the second time* a well known lawyer's
dog attacked her while riding. It wasn't even a big dog, just an
aggressive one.

You're too lazy to walk your dogs?
Yes, a lead pipe attitude adjustment seems to be in order, for you.

Let the dogs out? Just let them out? On their own? It sounds like you
don't mean in a fenced-in yard, but just to roam the neighborhood. I
would never poison an animal, but if I saw a pack of dogs just loose and
running around, I'd definitely call animal control and have them picked
up.

Keeping pets indoors isn't imprisonment, it's for their safety. Not
just from poisoners, but from cars, wild animals, and their own
curiosity about things like yummy puddles of antifreeze.
And if you really want your pets to get some fresh air, there's this
marvelous invention called a "leash". And yes, they make them for cats
too, and yes, I've leash trained my own cat. He doesn't like to take
walks so much as just sit in the sun by the bushes and watch the world
go by, while I sit on the steps and read, but the harness leash keeps
him from running off to chase birds and bugs and getting lost or hurt.
We walk around the building sometimes when he wants to explore. I lost
2 cats myself when I used to just let them roam, and I finally wised up.
Cat movements can be unpredictable. Deliberate? Hmmm. It is possible,
but an errant effort to avoid could drive one right into a darting cat.
Last I heard, in California, cats are presumed strays, and one is not
obliged to stop after running over one with a car.

It does get you going faster, assuming you don't fall off first 🙂

I would let my dog out, in the interest of helping y'all go faster, but I
don't think she's got enough sense to watch out for cars.

I am willing to bet you are the kind who likes to deliberately hurt
animals. Tell me, how many have you run over just to jerk off about it
later?
