Ok, now I think maybe this is a troll, so this is the last I'll say
about it:

The previous posts tell the story if somebody wants the history.
As I said, threads are often broken. Especially when you're reading ones
that are old. The previous messages are very often lost and these 'cut'
discussions will lose their context and meaning when this happens. I
like to think of all this stuff that goes around the usenet as being
useful not just now, but in the future. If an article is expired from
one person's news server but not anothers, then you end up with a new
thread labeled, for example "Re: Probiotics?" and the single message
that has been replied to is now the top of the thread. If all of the
previous information has been cut, then this has context only for the
person that replied.

When you bottom post readers have to wade through piles
of repeated history to get to todays message.
The quote marks show the current message. That's what they're for. I
really can't believe that it is too much effort for people to scroll to
the bottom of the message.

Most won't even bother unless it is super interesting.
I don't think you can say "Most people wont even bother...". I assume
that anyone who reads the thread will be reading because they're
interested. If someone has posted a question, and they want the answer,
it seems doubtful that they will abandon it because there happens to be
some text beforehand. If they do, then I don't really mind. I never
leave "piles of repeated history" but I leave usually the previous three
or four comments to preserve some context.

Not many here have the literary skills to be chased through a long
repititive header, more header and two lines of real text.
Well, this makes me think you're just trolling. If you're not, then I
think a lot of people, particularly those that read these groups, would
be somewhat offended by that statement.

If you want people to read your post then top post.
As I said, I'll post in a fashion that keeps context and makes the most
sense... whether it be top, bottom, or intermingled as is the case with
this post.

If you don't care if people read your message...then why post at all?
I don't care if *everyone* reads my message. If you're not interested,
then feel free to skip my message. I've never had a problem with it
before. You speak for yourself, not for everyone else.
Scott.
