  1. I'm going to apologize first of all, for the flames this will probably generate.

I have picked up a few of the the moutnain bike magazines I see in the book stores, and for the
most part have been disapointed with them. I don't want to read a magazine to be told what to
think about certain aspects of biking, I want good reviews and information pertaining to the
sport. Some magazines even go so far as to include political issues (that don't relate to
biking), if I want information on politics I'll pick up a copy of USA Today. So my question is
after I ranted, are there any mags or E-mags out there that I can depend upon for stories and
    reviews that pertain to biking.

I don't normally pick up magazines, but I was bored in Stockholm airport and so bought a copy of
Singletrack (English). As far as magazines go, it's very good. Not many adverts, a few reviews which
give you the good and bad points but don't give an overall rating, and loads of ride reports. It's
basically about people getting out on their bikes and going riding, and as such, is about as close
an incarnation to this group as you could get in magazine form. www.singletrackworld.co.uk

Dirt Rag I have always found to be OK, and The RIDE (East Coast Bike Culture) is great. The only two
I read. (So at least _I_ like 'em)

That's unfortunately how most of them are. I subscribe to several, but none of them are good for
much more than 20 minutes. The best I ever read was one published in the U.K., which I picked up at
Borders Books. I would've subscribed, but I believe it was over $100/year.

I still take Dirt Rag, but don't like it as much as I used too. Too much devoted to music, beer
    and politics.

Dirt Rag is a pretty down to earth route to go.

  10. I had alot of time to read different Mags after I broke my collar bone, I was also disappointed with
the amount of Ads in most. I did find a couple I would recommend Check out BIKE also on line at
www.Bikemag.com it has alot of longer stories for a smaller mag, only a few adverts. Also MBR
(Mountain Bike Rider) an Over sized UK Publication More Ads but same kind of articles as BIKE.

I'll buy them when I am traveling, easy, quick reads which are convinient in a busy airport. But do
not expect to get much valuable information. I suppose if you are really new to the sport and don't
know how to adjust your deraillure (or spell it 🙂), they may have some benefit, but otherwise most
tend to be a framework for selling bikes and assorted parts. As far as reviews, I would most
certainly take them with a grain of salt. Remember, the reviewers are not you, they don't have the
same expectations, same riding style, same riding area, same budget ... And the bike manufacturer is
probably paying a fair amount to advertise their bikes in that rag, so how un-bias could the review
really be. Personally, when I read any review, I like to read only the negative stuff, they tend to
provide me with more useful information, especially if I can get some idea of the reviewers
    experience.

I like the new "Flow" mag. I still read MBA but their perspective seems to be off a wall that I
    can't find.

    I often use mtbr.com for reviews although it's not a magazine ;-)
