I hope they never find this child and her abductor.

The Police and public are HUNTING for the MOTHER of a 6 month old child who HAS a FATAL illness, the
child IS DYING...so THAT the State can prosecute and probably imprison the mother and have her spend
the rest of her life with a prison record (because) as the childs mother she wants to be WITH her
fatally ill child....well Screw the State of Georgia. I'd be more critical of a mother who was
willing to just walk away from being with her dying child. I guess ya gotta hunt down and arrest
mothers in Georgia whose Maternal instincts are fully functional. [I am giving my opinion based only

Correct me if I'm wrong but arent Amber Alerts pretty well publicized already? As in featured on
tv and radio in the areas in question? If so posting here seems a bit pointless although the
sentiment was nice.

Hey Ted, ya got any kids? A mother is told her daughter has a kidney condition that is considered
Fatal. (not dangerous, not life threatening...but Fatal). Are there any guarantees the child will
survive if taken away from the mother and hospitalized.

It did NOT say the kidney condition was caused by the mother neglecting her daughter OR her refusing
medical care. It said it was a Pre-existing medical condition. Pre-existing in a 6 month old is
usually a condition such as Renal Failure that is present at birth...Pre-existing is a more
politically correct way of saying "birth defect". Six month old girls do not get Kidney transplants
and are allowed to die (with dignity)...which in this case means with her 18 yearold mother in a
jail cell. Don't know how you grew up Ted, but I'd hope the child passes in peace with the woman who
brought her into this world. Ya gotta figure if the mother cared enough about her daughter she'd
risk jail to be with her child....then she deserves to keep her child.

Sometimes local officials fall over one another trying to do the "right thing" and forget the
maternal instinct of a mother is to protect her young. Not so long ago State officials went around
snatching the new born children of the mentally retarded for State ordered sterilization and parents
who refused went to jail...now we are more "enlightened". When State officials start taking 6 month
old kids (with pre-existing medical conditons that end in death) away from their mother and then
sick the Police on the mother...it is time to get the hell out of Dodge.

I have no problem with Robert or anyone posting the Amber Alerts on ARBR. The Amber Alert is an
excellent service and I am sure it will save lots of kids per year....BUT I do not agree that the
Amber Alert should be used for Parental Abductions (when only ONE Parent exists) as in this case
in Georgia.

Knowing what I know about the way Department of Family and Children Services operatess here in
Georgia, she must have been a real loser to lose custody. Another clue [if accurate] is her
hieght/weight of 5'9" 95 lbs. If that is true--can you say JUNKIE? Of course I am specualting on

As for my being 100% emotional....damn straight, but at least I went and did some research into the
case within 20 minutes of reading the Amber Alert posted by R.L.Bass....So...how long did it take
you to look it up before saying the mother was probably a Junkie who couldn't take proper care of
her kid hmmmm.

The Amber Alert should NOT have been used in this case. The mother was just transporting her ill
child to the hospital by way of a relative. Even if she was fleeing the State (which is what the
Police believed she was trying to
do), it was still her child UNTIL the Judge awarded State Custody and IF you took the time to read
the report properly you'd see the Custody Order was issued (after) Child Welfare failed to grab
the kid. Children's Services DID NOT go to the house with a Custody Order, they went armed only
with an "Apprehension Order" which is NOT a State Custody Order. State Custody Orders are ONLY
issued (after) the child is in care of Children's Services OR the child was taken by an Adult
(this case). So, at the point when this mother was driving to her relatives home, was WHEN the
Custody Order was issued. The Custody Order came about AFTER apprehension failed...NOT before,
which is what you keep implying. The original report stated, the mother fled the scene to avoid
the serving of an Apprehension Order.

Step One...Apprehension Order, StepTwo...present a "Show Cause" for Custody Order before a
Judge...Step Three...Custody Order issued IF (various reasons, including the health/life of the
child is in danger). Step Four...Custody Order has a shelf life of usually 30 days and Custody is
restored to the parent (unless) Children's Services can make a case to extend the Custody Order and
or seek State Wardship.

You have your facts mixed up and the events out of order and IF it turns out the mother is NOT a
Junkie, maybe you should seek sensitivity counselling. BTW (IF) you are married with children, does
your wife share your beliefs?

A family member brought Desiree to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston on Friday night.

Hospital officials would not discuss the child's condition. Gwinnett police spokeswoman Officer
Valerie Southard Sayles was arrested without incident at a relative's home on
Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road.

Thursday, an Oconee judge issued an order for the Department of Family and Children Services to

3) Yes, it would have been nice if Georgia had consulted me prior to issuing the Amber Alert and I
trust you will bring this to their attention.

4) YES, I can say "Screw Georgia" when a Judge WHO interprets and imposes the Laws and Statutes
of the State of Georgia, that Judge IS the State of Georgia. So, I could equally say Screw

5) I did NOT post the Amber Alert on this News Group and I was pleased Robert Bass DID post the
message...because bent cyclists ride trails and ride off the beaten path and this puts cyclists
into areas not travelled by cars and trucks. Areas an abductor may take a child to avoid
detection. My old bicycle club has been asked to assist Police many times in doing searches for
missing and abducted children.

When a child goes missing and an Amber Alert is issued. The idea is EVERYONE (including Recumbent
Cyclists) should be looking for the child...NOT just people driving cars.

.And it *is* OT....bite me Imagine the kicking and screaming IF the local Police called upon all
local cycling clubs to look for a lost kid and there was a Bent club who was excluded.

Bent riding clubs HAVE participated in Charity Rides and I'd suppose individual riders have kept a
watchfull eye out for lost kids on their rides.
