A digital Vernier Caliper @ £9.99 A metal, live AC, or wood, detector @ £3.99 A Plug-in meter for volts, watts, kWh and (allegedly) power factor @ £4.99 A collapsible wheel nut spider @ £2.99
Why couldn't I buy stuff like this 20 or 40 years ago when I might have had a use for them. ;-)
I was sick of folk telling me how much power my TV etc burn when on standby, and now I know.
TV = 4w VCR = 3w DVD = to low to measure Digi Box = 8 or 9w

Is there a simple mathematical formula linking that to future rises in sea levels from global warming? I expect you could more than offset it next time you visit the seaside by removing a few pebbles from the water. Sometimes the solutions are obvious. Given the fact that all these archaeology chappies have to dig down a fair way before finding anything to shout about, land levels are rising far faster than sea levels ever will anyway aren't they? That was my deep thought for the day. (I have all my best thoughts in the ad breaks for Coronation Street, now back to the important things in life).

[censored]. We religiously turn the TV off but leave the VCR, DVD and Digibox on. Are they fairly standard results d'ya think?

No idea, until I casually get my meter out when visiting friends. Is that your wattmeter in your pocket, or are you pleased to see me? 8-) I will check them all again carefully, I forgot what the Hi Fi receiver pulled. The TV was only about 54 to 58w when switched on, BTW, varying with volume level apparently. The LCD screen has tiny letters, so I need a magnifying glass!
I also want to check some of the 'economy' bulbs I've installed all over the house.... -- Gordon Harris

I'm sure there is, and there are quite a few mathematicians in this group, (He said in a voice filled with dread, Anticipating a horrendous thread).

But what when I tire of playing with all these LiDL toys and throw them in the sea? That could throw the balance the other way...
Corrie's over now, I must get engrossed in the ads.
