I think it was a last minute choice by him since I bailed on him last night.
Actually I didn't even hear about it until after he was done. It sounds
like I really missed out but work has been hell and I needed to catch up
this weekend before the boss got back from vacation.

I had to run the cable housing between the shifters and the frame to the
"wrong" side of the frame (or else it would bend too sharply), and then I
cross the inner cables over each other as the cables run along the down
tube. Your MTB will probably have all the cables running on the top tube,
though, so it probably won't be an issue for you.

Works great - and a whole lot cheaper than STi levers.

fine together (eg: Ultegra brifters w/XT derrailleur. Cantis should
work. VBrakes may work, as may mechanical discs.... I'm not sure what
the difference in brake lever ratio is.
