    You may want to look at cyclocross setups. Shimano stuff should work
    fine together (eg: Ultegra brifters w/XT derrailleur. Cantis should
    work. VBrakes may work, as may mechanical discs.... I'm not sure what
    the difference in brake lever ratio is.
