Which reminds me. The Greater London Assembly is to scrutinise the
London Cycle Network. That's within a committee room, I imagine, not
actually on bikes.

If you have any comments, you need to get them to Darren Johnson, of
the Assembly's Transport Committee, by Aug 5th. How you do that, I'm
not sure.

The aims of the scrutiny are:

To review progress made to date in the implementation of the London
Cycle network Plus (LCN+) and to examine the potential obstacles to
its completion by 2009

To review and assess whether the LCN+ meets the needs of present and
potential cyclists.

To review and assess quality and standards of the LCN+ to date

To make recommendations for improving implementation, quality and
standards of the LCN+ network.

I think that about 400km of the total 950 km of the network are now
complete. That's enough, I imagine, to give an idea of how it is
going to turn out. They are spending £17 million quid on it this
year.

and used that road. (I worked at Salibury District Hospital and made
frequent trips to town.)

I was always on the road; some of the gradients made starting off at
traffic lights, whilst taking a right lane, on a Brompton T3

Turn to the right is into a college. Pavement straight on is not shared
use (that white line would make an award winningly narrow cycle lane if
it was). There is nowhere to go but back the way you came if you are
not going to college.

Thanks for that. I didn't think that turning on the right was a road but
I wasn't sure. So unless this is a cycle lane specifically to enable
cyclists to reach the college it's sole aim seems to be to either
encourage cyclists to ride illegally on the pavement or to ride
illegally the wrong way along a dual carriageway.

Isn't there a law against "entrapment"?

If you are going to college, is it a useful shortcut from anywhere compared
with going out of sight to the next junction in the left hand lane and
coming back where the A36 arrow is?
