From everything I've read over the past ten years, that seems to be a
matter of opinion.
But Opinions are like ass holes. Everybody has one! <lol>
The majority appears to be on the side of more weight, less reps for
overall mass building.
Personally, if I can lift it more than 12 times, I add weight. If I
can't lift it at least 8 times, I reduce the weight a bit unless I'm
trying to break a barrier. I'll usually start out lighter for the first
set, then add weight over the next two.
It never ceases to amaze me how the addition of a measly 5 lbs. to the
bar can make such a difference on DL's and benches! I tossed 5 more for
my last set on DL's Friday and could only do 6 reps. The set before I
did 10.
And my shoulder blades are still really sore today. ;-)
