  1. Finally used my George Foreman cooker. Took one of my Omaha Steaks burgers
    and put it on.

Unfortunately, I wasn't paying attention and waiting for it to beep or
something... but it just keeps cooking so my burger was VERY well done...
    but still edible.

I passed up both of those and went straight for the garlic press, the
stand mixer and the $200 set of department store knives. I just love all
    4 of my tomato knives!!!111one!1

Even though you didn't like it.... I can assure you that it was done
    to perfection for *someone*.

A slow cooker or a crockpot both are very handy tools. Seems that the
main difference between them where I live is that a slow cooker is like
a hot plate with a removable pot and a crockpot has a metal shell/case
with heating coils and a removable crock. I've never had a slow cooker
but really enjoy crockpots. At present I have a 11 qt. model with a
built in timer but I find that the automatic built in timer isn't as
handy as using a separate appliance timer. Live and learn.

On Average I use my crockpot about once every 2 weeks. I cook a lot of
stuff in my crockpot. Mostly pork cottage rolls, various homemade
soups, stews and chillis. But on ocassion I've made cheater's
spareribs, pot roasts, briskets, braised chicken parts, Barb's
caramelized onions, spaghetti sauce and Nancy's dreaded grape jelly
    meatballs.

A handy tip is if cooking something messy that will be hard to clean up
after like say swedish meatballs, is to use one of those plastic oven
roasting bags to line the crock prior to use and just chuck the bag
    after use.

Another tip learned from Sheryl a long time poster...use veggies like
carrots or celery to support things like whole chickens. This raft
keeps the bird elevated and out of it's own cooking juices for a better
taste and texture to the meat. The raft also supplies some flavoring
    for the gravy or sauce.

I live alone but mostly use the largish crockpot to cook up items to
stock the freezer for quick lunches or suppers mostly. Things like
soups, stews or large cheap cuts of meat. Others find the long cooking
time allows a meal to be cooked while they are away at work etc...

It's not a question of where he grips it!
It's a simple question of weight ratios!

A five ounce bird could not carry a one pound coconut.

    Are you suggesting coconuts migrate?

Is there really a difference between a slow cooker and a crokpot? To
me they are the same, both cook slowly right? I'd like to know so I
can give the correct response when folks ask me about them.

I have passed up the George Foreman but own 2 slow cookers. I just recently
purchased a bagel/toast toaster. I checked out the Cadco but the one I
looked at was way too expensive, as was the Holman QCS2-1200B Conveyor
Bagel Toaster. I think the Cadco was $219 and the Holman was <gasp> almost
$1100. Since I don't own a restaurant and the toaster will not get that
much use I settled on a Black & Decker T4100 OptiToast Electronic 4-Slice
Toaster. It was right around $40 with tax and perfect for what I'll use it
for. Hopefully it will not wind up in the purgatory part of the pantry with
the rest of the unused gadgets and appliances.

Or fill the crock with water and let it soak. I made apricot jam in the
crockpot a couple days ago and let the water-filled crockery cook for a
    couple hours. Cleanup was easy.

Crockpot is a trademarked name for Rival brand's slow cooker.

There are two types of cookers people call a slow cooker. One is a metal
base with a metal pot that sits on top. The base has a non stick surface
and can be used as a sort of griddle. The other is a deep base that a
crockery pot sits down in. The one with the griddle base heats only from
the bottom and the one with the crockery insert heats from the sides. I
have both. I like one for some things and the other for some things.
