I think Jenny said she was taking 5mg, I don't know what her reason for that
dosage was. The life extension foundation website might have some info on
    it

    Really?????
    Wonder why that is?

I've been taking 100mg per day for awhile now and it does not do that to
    me!

It's very good for my libido, but I take it more for weight lifting than
anything else. That, and it's supposed to be one of the "longevity"
    supplements. :-)

    See previous post...

The Dr. that I get my supplement advice uses it as an anti-aging
supplement along with HGH and Melatonin.

Also, excess DHEA is supposed to be converted into Testosterone which
can help with strength gains in the gym.

I've not been able to discuss dosage with the doc. as my work shift has
changed to nights so it's difficult to get ahold of him.

Was just wondering if anyone else has had any experience with this
    stuff...

I believe that the generally recommended maximums are 25 mg for
females and 50 mg for males and that the recommended standard doses
    are about half that.

  8. Because it converts to testosterone that then converts to DHT.
I was taking Relora for stress and, even though it doesn't contain DHEA
directly, it causes the body to create it's own by over 200% more than
normal. I already have oily skin, so the excess DHEA causes me to breakout
even worse than I usually do.

    Wow...
That was what I'd originally read a few years ago, but Dr. says that
more recent research has found that you have to titer it by age.

I can get a capsule dosage of 25, 50 and 100 mg. in a single pill now.

Last _I_ read it was 50 mg. for females in my age group.

Ok, so I'm a dip and taking the 100 mg. dose. ;-)
Was hoping it'd be beneficial for me in weight loss and so far, I've had
no "masculinization" side effects but my strength gains at the gym have
    been better than anticipated.

    Bummer...

I use a prescription gel on my face after every bath and that keeps
breakouts to a minimum. It's "Erygel".

I've found that if I really keep my water intake high, (not just fluids
but H2O), that helps my skin a LOT!

Yes, I'm aware that excess DHT can exacerbate acne.

  11. Nothing topical has ever helped me and only antibiotics or Accutane have
worked when taken orally but with awful and potentially harmful side
effects. And within a week of stopping, the acne returns so they're
    basically useless too.
I had hoped that one benefit of going LC would be to clear up my skin due
to eating a much healthier diet, but that hasn't happened and it's been a
year and a half now. I've even discovered that I have to avoid getting
excessive amounts of iodine, iron and vitamin D as these make things worse
    too.
I've been trying a different approach during the last 2 months that has
been working very well for me. Basically, I'm taking supplements that stop
testosterone from converting to DHT. Things like zinc, saw palmetto,
borage oil, vitamin B5 (not for DHT but for the excessive oiliness), etc.
These are things that I can take for the rest of my life if necessary
    without any harmful side effects.

I could easily be behind the times here. I don't follow this item
subject closely and could easily have missed new information.

OTOH, this could be a difference similar to prescription strength and
non-prescription strength pills. Ibuprofen in 200 mg size is OTC and
the standard dose is 2 pills, or 400 mg. Ibuprofen at 600 mg and 800
mg in single pills is available by prescription. Nothing prevents a
person at home from taking 4 of the 200 mg pills. It's just that
there is a high enough probability of bad side effects at that dose to
make it a prescription drug when sold as a single pill. The same
general idea could be working for DHEA. The old limits of 25/50 were
safe for everybody but higher doses were only appropriate for some
people, so they should only be taken at that level under a doctor's
supervision. Age and sex would be part of the factors the doctor
would use to make a decision.

Do you take oral Vitamin A?

I do get some pimples, but not in excess, and mostly around "that time
of the month". Seems to be a standard part of PMS. ;-)

Sugar and chocolate make my face break out rather badly, but obviously
    you are not doing that.

Have you tried cleaning your face with an Iodine based cleaner every
night? That helps me also, as do Bentonite facials!

I bought a 25 lb. bag of Bentonite clay sometime back so I have a
lifetime supply. ;-) If you'd not mind posting your real e-mail address
(spelled out so you won't get picked up by a spam-bot), I'll be happy to
send you a couple of oz. to try with instructions. Bentonite facials are
awesome and good for deep cleaning pores. IMHO it's superior to green
    clay.

    No charge!

    'zactly... :-)
Your own body makes DHEA but it tapers off as you get older so the older
you are, the larger a dose you need to take. The capsules I buy OTC
actually contain 100 mg. in a single pill.

    I'm 43.

    Yes, 10,000 UI plus 50,000 UI beta carotene/day. Also 80mg zinc, 100mg P5P
and 800 UI vitamin E. Plus saw palmetto, stinging nettle, hemp oil and
    borage oil.

Me too but since I started taking DIM-Plus and Vitex with the above, that
has stopped happening. My face has been pretty much clear for 2 months
solid now. And the DIM-Plus and Vitex have stabilized my periods. They
started to get wonky about 2 years ago. My gyn says I'm in perimenopause.
I started taking mega-doses of vitamin B5 about 4 weeks ago and the
excessive oiliness is diminishing too. I don't wake up in the morning with
my hair oil-slicked to my scalp anymore. :-)

Sugar has always done it for me too. I haven't used sugar since Splenda
became available in Canada back in the early '90s. Luckily, chocolate
doesn't bother me, unless it has sugar in it.

Thanks for the offer but I don't do masks or scrubs, etc. My skin is so
sensitive that they make me breakout even worse. I tried using tea tree
oil, but it burned even when diluted.
I've found that Neutogena's Visibly Firm day and night creams have helped
with the redness. They have vitamins like niacin and B5 in their bases.
Plus the copper acts as an anti-inflammatory and antibacterial agent. And
it's doing a wonderful job on my crows feet and forehead lines too. :-)

What do you think is in fluids that make them "fluid?"
Ignorance is bliss; if you think that drinking a glass of water rather than
a glass of any other cold beverge gives you more fluids, knock yourself out

    it

I started out at 25 mg, but it pushed up my blood sugar and blood
pressure, which is what testosterone does to me (I tried it in a hormone
pill years ago) so I backed down.

For me, if I develop zits, I'm too high, as that is another testosterone
    symptom.

I suspect your body weight will be an issue, too. For most meds, you
should adjust them to body weight. I weigh around 142 lbs on a big
frame. If you weigh significantly more, you probably need a bigger dose
of the DHEA. Age is also an issue. I'm 57.

A recent study published in JAMA gave older men and women a dose of 85
mg a day for six months (or more. I don't exactly remember). It turned
up no problems with that dose, and many health benefits.

I take DHEA because a good study showed it to reduce insulin resistance,
and I found it significantly helped my not-too-good memory. I put my 89
year old mom on it a few months ago as her memory is seriously
deteriorated and it made for some visible improvement, though not total
healing by any means. I have her on 5 mg a day (approved by her doctor)
    right now.

My mom is someone who doesn't believe in taking pills of any sort, but
after a week on the DHEA she told me she could feel that her memory was
better and could she please keep taking it.

DHEA also is helpful for people with depleted cortical hormones--which
may include those of us with naturally anxious personalities. That is
also the conclusion of university researchers.

However, after nine months on the DHEA I have to say that the effect is
not as perceptible to me, anyway. OTOH, the stress level in my life has
been so high the past couple months it is possible nothing could help!

  19. Ive just been taking one 25 mg a day.
I wouldnt mind upping it to 50, but the LAST thing I want is my libido
    to return!

Come to think of it...I dont want to live to be old either. Maybe I'll
    stick with my low dose.

Did you watch Six Feet Under last night? When Ruth said, "Im seven
million years old. I just want to be left alone to wither away in
peace", I fell OUT. That's just how I feel.

No more libido for me, thanks.
