  1. I'm a 22-year-old girl. I'm about 5'5 and weigh about 115. I have a
VERY petite build. I have always been athletic. However, in the past
few years I have been really busy with school and have noticed my
metabolism slowing down. Which is a good thing. My legs and arms are
soooo thin! The only problem is that I have a very flabby stomach...
&/or midsection. I DON'T THINK I AM FAT! My stomach appears to look
even bigger than it really is due to the rest of my body is so small.

A few months back I broke my foot and shortly after my foot healed I
came down with a sickness that kept me out of the gym for another
month. I basically didn't work out for three or four months. Not to
mention it was winter time and I packed on some unwanted flab... and
had no chance to burn it off. =(

After not going to the gym for so long I have been getting back into
things kinda slowly. I have been exercising every day for the past
month. I run for 20 minutes on the treadmill at the steepest incline.
I have doing this because I'm under the impression that it will build
my lower body while trimming my midsection. I have not noticed any
results in my stomach. In fact, I feel flabbier!

I am hesitant to diet since the rest of my body is so small.

    Anyone have any ideas/suggestions/workout routines???

    1) cutesy spelling in the subject line will tend to get you ignored
    2) abdominal exercises to strengthen/tighten the muscles to reduce the
appearance of bulge (as opposed to the myth of spot reducing)
    3) liposuction

You deal wth excessive thinness by lifting weights and building lean
    mass, not by getting fat.

    Right now, you're getting fat.

That will work just fine, but it will work fairly slowly, especially if
you don't diet. If you're in the 750cal/hr range, that's about enough
to lose 1lb every 2 weeks, so you won't see all that much in a month.
Either do about 3 times as much exercise, diet, or be patient.

If you want to lose the flab without shrinking, lift some weights, and pay
attention to your diet. Your weight will stay about the same, but you'll
have more shapely arms and shoulders, and a thinner waist. BTW, the fact
that you're female doesn't mean you have to do some special wimpy toning
routine like most gym bunnies. It means you have to work 10 times as hard
to gain any lean mass. So no wimpy stuff. Take a look at the lifting tips
    on http://www.stumptuous.com

Won't doing that make my stomach loose fat but stay about the same

Nope. Not an option. Only [censored] jobs for me. You can't get bigger [censored]

Abdominal exercises will not make you loose, or lose, fat, around your
abdomen. They will, however, create a girdle-like effect, holding your
    stuff in better.

I know this might sound strange... but I like my body better now that
'I'm fat' ... minus the stomach flab. I feel more like a woman and not
so much like a little girl. However, I think I just might start doing
some of those lifts for ladies I saw on that website you posted!
Thanks! =) I don't mind putting in hard work. It's just that I worry
    about becoming too thin again.

Today I worked up to 30 minutes... burning 400 calories. I'll be doing
30 min for another week or two. I would eventually like to get up to an
hour. I eat pretty healthy. The only problems I run into are around
'snack' times. It's really hard for me to find healthy snacks? Do you
know of any? My friend keeps saying she loves the South Beach diet...
Have you heard anything about it? Seems kinda extreme to me... she
can't even eat carrots!!! Thats crazy! I love carrots!

    Thanks Donovan!

No way! I used to run cross country. I think I get a better work out on
the treadmill. No stop signs/lights or cars.. etc... and best of all...
no running down hill! That's a killer on my poor little knees!

You are describing someone with an apple shape as opposed to a pear
shape that is starting to pack on visceral fat. You're at greater risk
of your obesity harming you, although your legs quite likely will
    continue to look great.

If it hadn't been that it would have been something else. Getting a
job, having kids, whatever life changes come along and transform you
from carefree girl to grown-up woman. Welcome to the world of trying to
maintain a healthy body while having an actual life.

The word you're looking for is fat. You feel fatter. And I'm not
surprised: I haven't had any luck using aerobics to do body
recomposition, either. To lose fat while retaining lean body mass
(muscle) you need to lift weights. Heavy ones, over and over again. A
nice routine for someone like you would be the Body for Life program.
    Find it at www.bodyforlife.com.

    Quoted message said:

I am hesitant to diet since the rest of my body is so small.

LOL. All you're saying is you're waiting for the rest of you to get
equally fat. Likely case is that you'll continue to pack on visceral
fat for many, many years with your belly growing but nothing else, just
because that's where you pack on fat. I pack it on my butt and thighs.
The rest of me isn't terribly fat, either. But there isn't anyone
here who would suggest I don't need to diet.

    Quoted message said:

    Anyone have any ideas/suggestions/workout routines???

I second the suggestion to go to http://www.stumptuous.com/weights.html

Also, just a word about usenet. Google does not have anything to do
with what you are. It's just using a usenet feed to the world of usenet
newsgroups that were in existance long before google or TalkAbout or any
of the other portals started pretending they own it. Its' more like a
bulletin board with a community that frequents it. And Cohen is not the
Google Guru, that's insultingly base. He's way more of a Guru than
that. I didn't bother to open your naked pics, but I'm sure he did and
that definitely got you on his good side. But he's right: lose the
cutesy spellings. This community doesn't like text messaging spellings,
    either.
