  1. Hello, everyone. I've seen a lot of wedgie blasting on this NG again. Am I the only person who finds
it a little tedious? Yes, 'bents are better than standups in certain conditions--downhill, flats,
etc., but how many folks have taken a 'bent on a singletrack trail, jumped logs, and crossed
ditches? Sure, some folks can win climbing competetions on 'bents, but how many can outsprint the
    hardcores on their standups?

'Bents are great--I own two, but there are still ways in which a standup is superior. That's why I
have a mountain bike. Can't we just celebrate our good fortune for having made wise choices for
ourselves and wish our friends on standups the best?

  2. Gee Chris what fun would that be?

Do you have any idea just how irritating it is to hear you types say lame things like 'standup' or
    'wrongups' or 'wedgies'?

Standups? So that would make the people in clownsuits riding them standup comedians I guess. :-)

Sure these threads can be tediuos. But so can threads defending DF's be. How many folks have taken
their expensive roadbike on a singletrack trail, jumped logs and crossed ditches btw? ;-) Different
    horses for different courses.

Mikael I'm taking my stripped down TE-clone to a hillclimb for bents this sunday btw. 185 meters of
    steep gravelroad. Should be fun.

You're at liberty to leave this newsfroup if you can't take the heat, sonny.

Yeah it's lame and tiresome, but you know, if you find it annoying, then what the hell.

Your correct bents don't make a good mountian bike. It's imposible to shift your weight around or
stick you butt over the back wheel on steep down hill on a bent.

However Diamond Frame or DF bashing is popular with bent riders because of all the wise cracks that
bent riders get from DFer's. If the DF only people would just say hi when they see a bent instead of
"stand up and peddle ha ha ha" we would not be bashing them. They bash us constantly so why not vent
on a newsgroup instead of starting a fight with a DFer.

I know folks who have a MTB in the closet and ride it at home. The local folks won't recognize them
because they are not on a bent, so it's reasonably safe.

  11. You know up till last year I would have whole heartedly agreed with you. As of late things are
starting to change subtly. Maybe it's because there are more of us visible. It could be that upright
riders are becoming a bit more envious of our constant smiles and general lack of suffering (except
for them thar hills). I for one have started to loose the attitude we bentriders often cop. I have
an "Ice cream Bell" that I ring for every rider when we pass on the road, that and a smile more
often than not, will provoke a positive response. Yes, it is dorky, but it works. I also make it a
point to ride whenever I can with upright riders. If they are curious, and most are, I emphasize the
fun part of recumbents, not the painful features of their ride I don't expect Recumbent World
Domination, and quite frankly I don't want
it. I'm quite happy and comfortable being the odd man. I'm just delighted to see people on bicycles
no matter what the configuration maybe. Fabrizio, long may you ride, and if you ride long
enough, you may find yourself leaned back and feet up like the rest of us on this group. If you
aren't already ;-) Denny in Sayre, Pa "Bent but not Broken" www.recumbentstuff.com

Heh. That's rather funny. I consider football (american) not to be a sport for similar reasons. 🙂

This one just appeared on uk.rec.cycling as well. Jim Price says:

"From a nation thats given us televised rounders and rugby for sissies (in both of which the
participants spend most of their time sitting down without even pedalling!). Pah."

If bents become a fad, you can always go to fully faired streamliners...

A closet benter maybe? Gotta train on lowracers in case they become really popular 😉

Hmm... don't the general public want to see faster and faster speeds in races, that would make bents
the thing. Besides crashes are exciting! ;p Could make sense for Shimano or Campy... do 80km/h on
    our components :p

Hey Fab, what you think? Campy sponsoring the Whitehawk or Bram, will it happen? 😉

  16. I lack good data, but do suspect that only a very few who read and post here really care all that
much about what the other person may choose to ride. Some cracks are probably from cranks. Others
are just throw-aways from otherwise normal people.
