I've been on low carb for about a year now and I lost more than 40 lb. I
lost it all very quickly and I just try to maintain it now. I'm not very
strict but just make sure I don't eat any sweets and very little pasta.
I go to gym, lift weights, do cardio and from tight 36 my pants are down
to loose 32. The thing is all that time I drunk a lot of diet pop and
used a lot of Sweet n low. I'm talking about 3 liters of pop a day. I
have a condition called VHL which means every few years I grow a tumour
somewhere and have to get it removed. This March I had a cancer of my
right kidney removed and I thought I should be OK for few years but I
was just told I grew a new one on my left kidney in last 3 to 4 months.
Is it possible there is a connection to the stuff in Diet drinks? I
stopped drinking that stuff for last few weeks even thou all my doctors
tell me it is safe. I use some Splenda to sweeten my tea now.

Jerry---Look....who knows what long term effects the various chemicals
in diet sodas cause? Additives, preservatives, artificial colorings
and flavorings....all chemicals, all unnatural, all alien to human
cells.
Doesnt it just make sence to avoid as many chemicals as possible and
stick to "real" foods?
Down South, we habitually drink iced tea. I make a half gallon almost
every day. I do use Splenda....but could and would give it up instantly
if I suddenly developed a tumor. People have been drinking tea for a
gazillion years---and green tea is especially good for you. Do you think
you could switch to iced tea?I dont have any clear idea why anyone would bother to set a pitcher in
the sun to make "sun" tea, LOL. Bring a quart of water to a boil and
toss in a family size tea bag. Luzianne is my fave, but Liptobn is
great, too. Turn off the heat, cover and let it come to room temp. Pour
into a two quart pitcher and fill to second quart with cold water.
That's it.It's way cheaper than soda, too, as well as being natural and chem-free.
Again, if I developed one tumor of any kind, malignant or benign, I
would stop ingesting ANY chemical food additive immediately. I have a
suspision that the weird and varied chemicals we ingest ARE a causitive
factor in canser.
I cant 'prove" it, but it's common sence to me that adding man-made
chemicals to our cells just might be the reason for the rise of cancer.LassChance
A good Rule of Thumb may be....If you cant pronounce it, dont ingest it.

That's it.It is possible that artificial sweeteners could be carcinogenic. But
many substances are, including natural ones. Caffeine for example - as
found in iced tea - is a well known carcinogen. We ingest many
cacinogens every day in amounts too tiny to cause any ill effect.Jerry, I think you may just be unlucky. Sometimes there is no cause for
these things..Quoted message said:

No (more) need to mock. I know Lass was just trying to help.
Lass, my point was that the sweeteners are no more likely to have caused
his cancer than anything else he has eaten. And that chemicals are not
necessarily bad.Will

certainty. Besides that, the mechanisms that cause cancer (promote
mutations) and stimulate its growth once cancer occurs, are not the
same. You are asking un-answerable questions. That said, I cannot see any
good reason to use saccharine.--

Just a defense of "sun tea". I live in Arizona, where the sun is WAY
intense. The tea just tastes way better than brewed, don't know why, but it
does. -

JerryLet's see if I have this right -
You have a preexisting medical condition that existed years
before you started low carb. You're fishing for a low carb
cause for it getting worse.Did chemicals make it worse? Who knows. With such a medical
condition why are you eating junk in the first place. Whether
chemicals in diet sodas are making it worse or not they are
certainly not good for you.At this point you should be eating as natural as possible on
general principles in an attempot to make things better. Per
your post you are mostly doing so already. Good job. Time
to switch from diet sodas to water and tea. -
