victory as well.

In the overall GC picture the event really doesn't make much
difference for Basso, unless Zabriskie is unable to continue. Of
course, psychologically it will have an effect but it's Riis' job to
take care of that.

Vino and Jan took hits today, but I doubt that either one will feel
disappointed with their team's performance. It could have been a lot
worse.

They were on such a good ride, though, it's sad to see them lose it at
the very end that way. Still, I'd agree that it likely won't much
matter in the long run, unless Zabriskie can't continue.

A pedal pull probably cost Lance the yellow on Stage 1, this crash
lost the jersey for David today.....

With Basso being a good climber and only 1'26" back you just never
know.
They will work hard to protect him and keep him within striking
distance in case Armstrong has trouble.

By the way, had it happend 300 meter later, Zabriskie would have the
same time as the group he was in. Then he lost only 2 seconds and have

Good point - I hadn't thought of trying to play pass the jersey, but of
course this does make that game a bit more difficult.
I'm not sure I see Riis sending Voigt up the road at this point, though.
I would have thought he'd save the big German to ride for Basso down
the road. It would enliven the race to see Voigt have a go in any case.

And (this is whining, I guess), since it's clearly a team effort, why not
give all 9 (or however many are left) the same time as the 5th across?

Seems to me the TTT treatment defies GC logic no matter how you slice it.
And obviously the tour organizers arent quite comfortable with it either
since they periodically change it or drop it entirely.

I'm sticking with my theory that he saw the cop standing on the road
side of the barriers (!), freaked out (who wouldn't!), jerked the bike
to the right, and lost traction.

Lot of oil on him too, afterwards... maybe the spot was slick to begin

Riis has just been on danish television, and told, they won't attack,
but will try to get a rider with, if a group takes form.

CSC lose 2 seconds,
T-Mobile lose 30 seconds, but was 35 seconds out.
Liberty Segures / Würth loose 40 seconds / 53 seconds

It seems to me Lance eased up near the end. He certainly wasn't working as
hard at the end of the first stage as he was after today's stage. He just
didn't want to be in yellow the first day.
