Hi, I am in the market for a second hand road/tourer and have come
across a Peugeot with a "Carbolite 103" frame circa early '80's I
think.
Anyone with any experience of this type of frame?
I would like to know what anyone thinks of the frame material, how
does it compare to Reynolds tubing of the same era? lighter, heavier,
stiffer, more flex etc? Would it be possible to spread the rear
triangle or would this just not work with this type of frame?

www.m-gineering.nlThanks for that, I'll have to look around a bit longer, unless anyone
has any /good/ comments on this type of frame?
Thanks in advance -

Thanks in advanceMy wife has a Mixte frame of that very material, very much gas pipe
IMO. Depends rather on what it costs and what you want it for. Remember
a heavy frame will always be heavy, a heavy bike can be made lighter. -
It's relatively cheap unbutted steel. I had one, rode beautifully.
Probably below Reynolds 501.I'd look for something else. Peugeot made 531 framed high end bikes
during that era.regards

remove outer garment for replyThanks for the advice, I'd never heard of "Carbolite 103" frames
before, I will carry on looking for something in more than likely 531.
It just has to be at the right end of my budget, which is on the small
side of small. just now, but I'm sure something will turn up 🙂
