  1. Have you done--or known someone else who did--detox diet? What did it
consist of? How long did you do it? What was the hardest/easiest part
of the process? Why did you do it? What were the results? Would you do
it again? Why or Why not? What advice would you give others
    considering this type of diet?

I'm really interested in your feedback.

  2. What do you want to detox? Who told you it is necessary? Why do you feel it
    is necessary?

  3. I have noticed no difference - of course there wasn't anything overly wrong
    in the first place.
I tried chlorella + cilantro +vitamin c+niacin for 1 month to attempt to
clean mercury out of my body.

  5. What toxins ?
What evidence is there that you have said toxins.

Easiest way to boost metabolism is to exercise.

    do you ask?

Do you believe everything you hear or read?

There are many unscrupulous quacks who prey on the fears of the
uneducated and naive. Of course there are toxins in the environment.
Our bodies are designed to detox themselves with the liver and kidney
as the major organs of detoxification and elimination.

If you choose to take a particular detox diet or program I would
suggest that you do some research to see if the diet or program really
gets rid of toxins. The only way to determine this would be to measure
    the toxin before and after.

Anecdotal accounts of people feeling better after a detox are fraught
with problems since they may be feeling better because of psychologic
    factors.

For example ask our own Jan Drew about how she felt better than she
had in two years within HOURS of having eight amalgams removed. She
thought she had mercury poisoning and simply being relieved that the
amalgams were removed was enough to make her feel dramatically better.
It is truly amazing how psychologic factors can cause incredible
changes in how one feels physically . Unfortunately these effects are
often short lived as placebo responses generally are not long lasting.

    Aloha,

    Rich

PS: If you do ask Jan Drew she is sure to tell you that I am a liar
and a stalker. She does this because I exposed her lies about her
amalgam history and she resorts to personal attacks in an effort to
    damage my credibility.

Every time someone here promotes "detox," whether by diet, or by "cleanses,"
he is asked "what toxins are being removed?"; "how do you know the toxins
are there?"; and "how can you determine that they have been removed?" No one
    can ever answer these questions.

The theory seems to be that we are surrounded by a world of environmental
toxins so we MUST have a bunch of them in our bodies, so we had better do
something to get rid of them. It just isn't true that we are all poisoned by
    a soup of miscellaneous toxins.

I treat poisoning on a regular basis, and one thing that I know is that
every poison is different and every intoxication is treated differently.
Acetaminophen overdose is handled much differently from plumbism which is
treated in a different manner than a heroin coma. If there were one
"cleanse" that removed all toxins from the body, there would be no need for
    toxicologists or poison control centers.

If you do "detox" based on a vague theory of "toxins in the body" you
accomplish nothing except to enrich those who sell you "detox" products.

Why do you believe it is not true that the body does a fine job of clearing
its day to day small doses of foreign or toxic substances?

    Rich,
People can answer those questions, but that's not what average folks
are really interested in who do it. The average person learns the
technical why for the result but usually forgets the technical why.
This isn't a technical forum, but it's being held to that standard
when it's convenient. This is more like dinner conversation.

I'm interested in why Marko accepts what he does. I don't want to
argue with him any more than I want to argue with you. But I'd sure
like to get a lot more out of this group than dirty names and why
    something is quackery.
There are materials on this you can look up to learn the technical
why, but I can tell you some of the results.

We aren't all poisoned by a soup of miscellaneous toxins, but do you
believe you are so pure that you have no other environmental chemicals
in your body in any amounts.

The person you call a quack, Hulda Clark, saved my father's life.
If you met this woman and witnessed just some of what she claims, you
would cut her some slack from the media onslaught. Think you're
really getting the true pic from the Net?

She bases her programs on increased environmental toxins, esp
solvents. Here is a woman who makes many claims from her decades of
research saying accumulated environmental toxins are true
and here you are in your toxicology career claiming it is false.
So what's going on? Is Clark honestly a wholehearted fake? Are you?
Should your statement be held up to the same scrutiny or is it
possible that there are different understandings here? There are.

You're medically oriented which is allopathic. You treat single
chemical equations in the body that require corresponding outside
treatments with an obvious short term effect known as an antidote.
That's not alternative detoxing in most cases. You probably already
know the alternative effective antidotes for your uses.

    Quoted message said:

"cleanse" that removed all toxins from the body, there would be no need for

You haven't investigated alternative detoxing products or you would
understand why this is unlikely to occur in our lifetimes. Your job is
    safe.
The word Detox in alternative doesn't mean the same thing as it does
in your field. Most, but not all, alternative detox methods I've
seen spoken of in here(I don't read most of the posts in here) are for
the preventative health minded person. That's the person who wants to
think more clearly, have more energy, have clearer skin or just
    function better.

Put aside the Mercury issues and the chelation questioning.
The one that boggles my mind now is that it is politically correct to
bash juicing. There won't be a person in this room who will be able
to tell me that the incredible health benefits I've seen 100's of
people receive over the years from juicing simply didn't happen or I
was so naive as to miss that it was just a switch from ice cream to
fresh fruit that made the difference.

Alt health methods is not a war, but people make it out to be in here
as though a select few own the medical establishment and suffer while
    watching it go under.
The 'alties' jump back to defend the honor of alternative health
methods as though any of that conversation is benefiting anyone.
When the day is over, what have you learned?
That alternative detoxing methods are junk because people charge to
    sell an herb?

There's a time for all seasons. You may need more information than
what you get in here. Learn to detox without those overblown
products. How can you get the information you think you're looking
for if you don't go out with an open mind and look for it yourself.
There is a lot on this subject.

[I'm tired writing this, but everything I was doing tonight fell apart
a little while ago, so I think I'm legitimately ranting. This might be
beneficial. Maybe I need to try that name calling thing once in a
while, too, but I've worked hard to get that need out of me.
Damn....I'm really tired. You guys will have a field day with this.
I hope it makes your night.]

    People cheat other people.
I look at the extreme name calling in here and tremendous posturing in
the same way. Those people prevent others from feeling safe to come
in here to discuss the meaty alternatives. Why would you think I
know that? Man....it's not what you think you know.....it's what you
haven't even begun to learn that you would give your right arm for.

When I think of the few people out there who have access to the really
extreme and beneficial alternative healing arts who wouldn't waste
their time in here or who came for a look and got irriated away, I
question what I lost. It's part of the reason I say, that the people
who [censored] in here everyday are actually pushing away from themselves
what they think they want. You will never learn just how true that
statement is until you have something of value that you wouldn't risk
    discussing in here.

Alternative detox isn't a vague theory. It just doesn't fit neatly
with what you know and you haven't gone out to investigate it enough.

    Quoted message said:

Why do you believe it is not true that the body does a fine job of clearing
its day to day small doses of foreign or toxic substances?

You treat poisoning, so I believe you understand just how little
poison it takes to kill someone. It doesn't take a lot of arsenic to
do the job. It doesn't take much botulism or even salmonella. You
also know that there are accumulated toxins that accumulate in
tissues, esp fatty tissues and when they reach a certain amount they
    become dangerous.

So even if the body is still as perfect as the day you were born, then
what if you could help the body do its job better. Along comes the
herbs, juices and magical brews. Get ready to be scammed. Not
everything is standardized. Even the fruits and vegetables you buy
don't have standardized nutrients, because they are all grown under
very different conditions. Is it deliberate scamming? Some...not
all. I'm a big boy. I would rather have the responsibility of
figuring it out for myself than no options at all. That's where we
    are today.

How many times do you ingest poisons in your daily diet? It's often,
but it's in very small amounts. The amounts that remain in the body
may be statistically insignificant to a medical man, but to an
alternative doc, they aren't, because overall quality of life doesn't
rest with what you may see under the microscope, but with what has
    accumulated throughout the entire body.

There are other things to detox that are much more easily seen.
Do you know that the body develops precarcinoid tumors regularly?
The grand healing that you mention is that the body manages to handle
those most of the time, but what happens when it can't or doesn't?
I worked with a healing method where we would almost routinely get a
healthy appearing person to a point where they would excrete those
things. However, such a thing is impossible to the average medical
person, but on occasion someone would bottle them up and show them to
medical professionals who were astonished. Those were the things the
surgeons cut out of people every day.

Those things are visible and some are undeniable. You can't look at
something that resembles liver or marshmallows with some blood veins
running on it and pass it off as last night's pot roast. The docs who
    were astonished didn't.

When people detox their bodies, some of us are also looking to get rid
    of that type of thing.

It happens with juice programs, but it may take months, not hours like
    is required of your antidote.

You want to believe that the perfect body is a machine capable of
eliminating everything. Medical science knows that's not possible. I
saw an article years ago that said modern science was able to detect
THC in a man's tissues 25 years after he quit smoking it. A duplicate
study was done a couple years ago saying THC could be detected at
least 7 years afterward. I won't hunt those studies down. If a
pothead wants to say it isn't so, then light that bowl of Grand Kahuna
    and enjoy the moment.

You might not think THC is a toxin, but how do you measure the effect
on those peoples' ability to think or reason. Did they lose .0000001%
of ability? Is that a big loss? Did the freon that leaked from the
refrigerator cause them to lose just twice that? Does gasoline at
the station or all the new cleaning chemicals simply exit the body
without much notice? The harmless additivies in our soaps, colognes
and anti-perspirants enter directly through the skin. People don't
question that all those chemicals are innocent and easily removed to
maintain a body as pristine as the day it was given to them.

There are hundreds of chemicals that combine in the body in tiny
amounts. Are you poisoned by that soup?
You're functioning just fine, but what if you could think clearer or
faster or more harmoniously? Any interest?

If you really want some experiences of your own visit this place for
two weeks after you've researched some information:

You can share a room for about $700 a week with the person you love

Okay, so with extremely sensitive technology like gas chromatography,
perhaps trace amounts of THC can be found in the fatty tissues of your old
pothead. And if THC sticks around, maybe trace amounts of other chemicals do
as well. But are these traces of substance harmful? Are they removed by ANY
altie "detox" regimen? Does "detox" remove each and every substance that can
    be stored in the body?

Has it occured to you that storing a molecule of THC away in the body fat
may be one way the body "gets rid" of it? After all, if it is still there
after 27 years, it didn't spend those 27 years partying among the brain's
    receptor sites.

I did not mention Hulda Clark's name, but now that you've brought her up,
she is an evil fraud who promotes quackery of the most dangerous sort. Some
    "sweetheart"!

  14. Logically, there is a way to "detox".

Assuming that you have "toxins" in your body, and further assuming that
these "toxins" are fat soluble, or water soluble, then the water soluble
"toxins" would be flushed out by a water diet, and the fat soluble
"toxins" could be flushed out by simply decreasing you body fat to zero.

Wait, wouldn't that just increase the "toxins" in your blood stream?

On the other hand, your body could metabolize the "toxins" and excrete
them in the urine or feces.

So, the best detox diet consists of water only, no calories.

    Hey, is this fasting?

What alternative medicine suscribes to fasting?

    They may be onto something.

    j.

    BTW has anyone defined "toxin"?

Yes....I know what storing in body fat means. I don't agree that it
just sits there along with all the other chemicals that joined the
    party.

Thanks for letting me write a book here and rant, Rich.
I don't know if I'll come back to it. Just by mentioning Hulda
Clark's name, there should be a lot of stuff to follow and she really
is a sweetheart of a woman.

I met the woman. I saw what she could do with 7 people including my
father. Call it quackery because it's unusual and you can pull up
many websites that justify your position to put you in an elitest
group, but the woman is a decent person.

    Thanks for your kind conversation.

I keep hearing this. That would be a healthy body. An unhealthy body does

    not.

Lets see...when people are sick, they often have hyperized cleansing occur.
That would be diarhhea, regurgitation, profuse sweating, etc. Hmmm...could
    Jan be wrong? Sure.

So simple that you do not have the answer since you do not know the
question. Care to list those toxins and how "cleansing' gets rid of them?

Every time someone here promotes "detox," whether by diet, or by

    "cleanses,"

    Quoted message said:

he is asked "what toxins are being removed?"; "how do you know the toxins
are there?"; and "how can you determine that they have been removed?" No

    can ever answer these questions.

The theory seems to be that we are surrounded by a world of environmental
toxins so we MUST have a bunch of them in our bodies, so we had better do
something to get rid of them. It just isn't true that we are all poisoned

    by

    a soup of miscellaneous toxins.

I treat poisoning on a regular basis, and one thing that I know is that
every poison is different and every intoxication is treated differently.
Acetaminophen overdose is handled much differently from plumbism which is
treated in a different manner than a heroin coma. If there were one
"cleanse" that removed all toxins from the body, there would be no need

    for

    toxicologists or poison control centers.

If you do "detox" based on a vague theory of "toxins in the body" you
accomplish nothing except to enrich those who sell you "detox" products.

Why do you believe it is not true that the body does a fine job of

    clearing

its day to day small doses of foreign or toxic substances?

Extremely well said, Rich. Unfortunately, the closedminded alties, such as
Jan Drew, will not see it.

This isn't backing you against a wall. If you're winging it from the

  20. Mike, I'd like to hear about your experiences with detoxification. Can
    you tell me more?
