  1. Bristol - Hull at last!. Rode 235 miles in 16h 40m setting off from Bristol
yesterday at 1800. Last 50 miles was extremely tough due to sweltering heat
and knackered right knee. Lots of kind roadies about in Lincs who allowed me
to draught on them for a while when they learned of my predicament.

My heart has developed its "missing beat" mode again today proving that it's
due to over exertion and not too much beer like my doctor tried to suggest.
    Cheers :-)

    Tedious photo story to follow.

Well, hurry up. The other cycling stories on the site have been an
inspiration to me in the past.

Your website tantalisingly offers a link to the most recent epic but
clicking on it gives an error. A work in progress?

Yes, Simon's ride was done a very impressive pace. Chapeau!

Probably not - mine was ride time. I didn't count the time I was in petrol
station shops or taking a pee. My speedo stops counting time if the bike is
stopped. I couldn't have ridden any more after only 6 hours off anyway, my
right leg was seized up solid the next day. Probably because I had not
ridden anywhere near that sort of mileage for 5 years. The cardio system was
fine, but the muscles weren't up to it.

Simon, I think you need to look at this web page:

Thanks Dave, but I actually get more of a sense of achievement riding alone,
although it's great to have companions and not have to worry about food +
drink, having to rely on my own willpower is very satisfying.

I'm the opposite. "Aha!" I thought on Saturday, "the weather tomorrow will
be nice, so I will get up nice and early and go for a spin into rural
    Essex."

    I didn't.

I have no idea how long I was actually "in motion" for. There was 5
controls requiring the brevet card to be stamped, two of these were
cafes where we had lunch/afternoon tea the rest garages where we
certainly didn't rush in and rush out. Time is not important on these
events unless you are close to the limit, riding more than 200 miles is
a great achievement no matter how fast one goes. I admire your
motivation Simon doing it on your own, not sure I'd want to.

How much did you eat at your first sit down meal after the ride?

It's not generally appreciated that we are two people, the one who
decides in the evening what to do tomorrow, and the other one who gets
up in the morning. It's an evolutionary energy saving adaptation.
