  2. Check out http://www.unicycle.2ya.com/. There's basically all the info
you need in the different sections (try trials first), as well as a
video of a hopping spin (I think this is what you mean amanda)

  3. A hopping spin, by definition, is not a spin. A spin is where you ride
around in a little circle, and your center of mass is rotating around a
fixed location. So while your wheel may be making a 4' circle, your
"balance point" is at the center.

  4. Hi Amanda,
This site has great vids of many of the skills:

    http://www.unicyclist.org/cont/levels.cfm

    And of spinning:
    http://www.unicyclist.org/cont/play.cfm?pi=w320240spin

In most of the vids the Unicyclist is Leo Vandewoestijne.

    Good luck!

I am curious at the definition of a hopping spin then. :-)
I think you mean that "hopping spin" is a contradictio in terminis.

  7. Sorry, I misunderstood the initial question, so I apologise for that. A
hopping spin can't be a contradiction in terms, since a hop combined
with a spin (a spin where the uni's tyre does not touch the floor) do
not contradict each other. A standard spin (IMHO) is where the tyre
remains in contact with the floor, and is initiated & sustained in a
totally different (pedalling rather than weight transfer) way. A
unispin, on the other hand, is where the uni rotates (usually in the
same way as a hopping spin), but the rider does not.

All these different spins! But I agree with John, a 'Hopping Spin' is
not a 'Spin', in the same way a 'Unispin' is not a 'Spin' either.

  8. I can spin whenever I combine several types of liquor in my stomach. If
done right I can sustain my spins for several hours before passing out.
However once I start spinning one direction (i.e. clockwise) I cannot
    spin the other way.

Pedaling is useless during the spin, it always ends in an abruput
meeting with the floor, where the spinning resumes with a new
orientation. I haven't tried hopping during the spin, as I am afraid it
would lead to the sudden loss of liquor. [image:

The standard term for that is "hop twist". If you say hop twist all the
unicycling geeks will know what you're talking about. If you say hop
spin then we're all scratching our heads to figure out what this new
    term is.

Hop twist is the standard term used in the skill levels and in the
standard skill definitions. A hop twist 90 is when you twist 90
degrees. A hop twist 180 is when you twist 180 degrees. A hop twist
360 is when you twist a full 360 degrees.

  10. Thanks John, I'll bear that in mind. Maybe I should get around to
reading the rules & definitions one of these days!
