  1. you won't get details of this until later, but the guy's admitted to using EPO in a judicial investigation and has been fired by Quick Step.

    ah now there is:

    Quoted post said:

BRUSSELS, Jun 1 (CP) - The Dutch rider Marc Lotz has resigned from the Belgian Quickstep team after having admitted to the use of the forbidden product EPO, in preparation for this year's Tour de France.

The rider sent a fax to the Belgian press agency Belga, and wrote: "On the 30th of May, I have admitted to the use of EPO in preparation for the Tour. The urge not to disappoint my team was so big that I escaped to this method, of which I understand that it is unacceptable.

I regret the fact that I have damaged the trust and support of my team, supporters and family due to this mistake. I wish not to avoid my responsibility and have offered my immediate resignation. I hope that my actions won't damage my team in the long run."

Lotz joined Quickstep during the winter, after having spent no less than eight seasons at the Dutch team Rabobank.

Quickstep manager Patrick Lefevere reacted: "The team strongly regrets the fault our rider made, because we were more than satisfied with the past efforts from the rider in question. Given the ethical charter, where we ourselves cooperate with, and the strong violation of the doping laws, we have no other option than to accept this dismissal."

  2. Huh when was this...........today??

yup. it's on het nieuwsblad site.

  4. It dovetails nicely with the other doping story involving the Belgian National Cycling Coach Jose De Cauwer.

De Cauwer will go to trial in October 2005 for a ten year old 'amphetamines supplier to rider' claim.

It's nice that the Belgian Coaches are so 'hands on', eh?

  5. Damn that sucks.....and proves youre point little better😉 Patrick lefevere said that he thinks Quick-step doesn't need to worry for an exclusion from the the tour. "This is not an organised practice, only one rider who did a stupid thing".

So what are the rules in the protour? Is quick-step still allowed to be invited?

  6. And something else he was quoted on Nos he didn't want to let down the team and his friends and supporters.......that is weird, because Lefevere has stated he was satisfied the way he rode for Boonen in the classics. Then again he didn't want to say when he tested positive......so maybe it was during the classics........who knows??

  7. I am afraid to say, that when a Team Director's lips are moving---you can be certain that he is lying.

This type of 'double-speak' is the norm in a sport where doping is exposed on a weekly basis.

Take Paul Sherwin's comments during the recent Giro, whereby he explained Gilberti Simoni's expulsion from the 2002 (while leading GC) from his 'non-negative' test for cocaine.

Does 'Non-negative' sound cleaner than 'positive' to OLN audiences?

Whatever, these guys are all dirty.

    .

LOL did he really say that? 😄

  9. Also when you consider that Phonak can sack:

    The director & assistant director

    The team doctor

    Tyler Hamilton

    Oscar Camenzind

    Santigo Perez

and still be within compliance with Pro-Tour rules, you realize the utter contempt for those rules.

Doping is always a Team Thing, and while idividuals have to handle many medications on their own--they do so with the expressed understanding of the Director.

There are very few secrets on a team.

  10. I watched Maarten Ducrot (conficted for epo in the 80ies???, and raced for the team of Lefevere) on the NOS and he said some interesting stuff.

He said that this can't be an isolated case. One epo shot doesn't do you anything (he would know!) and so Lotz must have been on a 'program'.......he left in the middle if it was in the team or outside with some doctor! He thinks this should be inspected to the bottom.......but he said that in cycling they tend to close the book fast. The book lotz is gone......and go on. He says the only thing that can change this sport is to investigate the quickstep-team and what exactly went on.

And he also made an interesting comment that by putting all the blame on lotz he saves all the cyclist in the cycling community of Lanaken (spelling??). Lotz lives there and there is a huge cycling community there with pro's and especially young pro's!

We don't know anything about the investigation, maybe there are more cyclists who are investigated. Time will tell....😕

  11. Funny that the site of marc lotz has changed to only a guestbook. Luckily it is not like some tyler hamilton guestbook; everyone may post there opinion. Some say he is an epo-user, some say they all do it. But what I find interesting is that some also say comments like: 'have you ever been on the bike......then you know why he would take'!

I find it interesting that a lot of people have those sentiments......like it just can't be done without drugs. Can't it?

Can you post the website address here?

He's been using that term for the last few years.

  13. His site is: www.lotsie.nl. Are you gonna post😉

  14. Oke the status on marc lotz is that he wrote a letter to his fans and posted it on his website.

He makes it clear that he wanted to be a leader and not be an helper anymore........he wanted more so that's why he took! And he wanted to thank everyone who ever said 'hup lotsie' (go lotz) and that he won't be riding in the peloton anymore.

So that's it roughly.........he's ended his career.

The KBWB (belgium cycling federation) is now waiting for the results of the investigation. And after that they will make a decision.................

Still wondering who, what, when.......which doctor etc (like many who wrote to his guestbook!).

  15. Is that Marc's 'cover story'? With EPO as common as aspirin for the 'worker bees' does anyone believe this rubish? I thought leaders used more potent stuff than Aranesp.

Did you believe Tyler Hamilton's story of woe?

Or David Millar's Eprex 'one-time only EPO use' and his saving the syringe as a personal 'momento'?

The leaders are off on HBOCs and other hemaglobin boosters.

Did Lotz have any "PolyHeme' in his possession? A shelf life of 15 months makes blood banking easy.

Me thinks Lotz took one for the Team and there will be some money in his Christmas stocking this year.

    Oh yeah!

  16. Flyer I simply wrote what he said.....I wasn't making judgements😉 But I do agree that he is protecting his team........dunno about money for the christmas stocking, but the team will be glad that he took all the blame.

Still we don't know much...........there were more riders questioned by the police only lotz spoke up (probably scared at hell, he had a very normal live not the thing you would think lotz would do). So let's wait.............

  17. Lotz gave an interview to the Limburger.

He says: 'Last year I raced three times for the etappe. Everytime I got short of victory. The same happened to me in the Brabantse Pijl and Amstel. That made me think my career again. I wanted more then always being the helper. With a little medical help I maybe could have won those races. I wanted to do the best in races but also outside races'........(that means also dope when not racing).

Lotz said that he did everything on his own (who believes that??): ''I started as amateur with vitamines. After that you learn how to inject vitamines in youre body. The next step comes fast after that....You know it is illegal, but it seems that you start expanding the (his) borders. I knew what I was doing. On the internet is a lot of information. As long as you inject small doses, the risc won't be as much''

  18. Sure we can wait---and read how Lotz continues to modify, amend, adjust, and eventually forget whatever he tells the public. When he returns to competition, he will never again comment on these dirty matters. So let's enjoy the story as it unfolds.

In just a weeks time he has modified his position from, "I did not want to disappoint the team for the upcoming Tour de France" to; "I started as an Amateur with vitamins. After that you learn how to inject vitimins in your body. The next step comes very fast after that....you know it's illegal, but it seems you start expanding the borders...."

This latest explanation---seemingly of full-time-on-going EPO use is closer to the truth than his initial David Millar version (denial, I only did it once script)---and it is very similar to:

Lance Armstrong' four Junior National Teammates. Oh yes, Greg, Erich, David and Gerrik shared the exact same stories in 1990 & 1991.

I wonder if the the liquid vitamin injections recommended by their coaches lead to corticosteroids, stimulants, growth hormones and other steroids too?

The Mark Lotz story is one of thousands, except few of these sad tales are ever told---publicly.

Maybe Lance Armstrong can do an interview and reconcile his experiences with that of his former teammates and the deceased, Marco Pantani too---the last man to win a TDF, not named Lance?
