I know, this topic is a can of worms, but Google Groups didn't yield very
definitive answers.
I'm planning on converting my shifting from downtube 8sp 105 to 10sp Record.
I've got the shifters already, and as far as I know, all I need now is a
cassette, chain, and rear derailleur.
Question 1:
Do I need to get a 10-speed chain? I remember seeing somewhere that 9sp
SRAM chains work well with C10.
Question 2:
Will a 9sp rear derailleur work with the 9sp or 10sp chain that I'll be
putting on? More specifically, are there any problems with the 9sp pulleys
shifting C10? I'm thinking it'll work... Peter said so!
Question 3:
Will an Ultegra 10 cassette work with C10 shifting? I'm thinking yes, since
the cog spacing difference is something like 0.1mm/cog.
Question 4:
Can a Shimano derailleur be used with C10 without a Shiftmate? I saw the
tandem links on using 10-sp Ergo with Shimano 9 cassette with alternate
cable routing, but no info on using 10s Ergo with 10s cassette.
Question 5:
Will a 10sp chain work okay on 8sp chainrings? I'm thinking yes.
