To "Count the Omer" is not the same as the unit of dry weight. Like a
modern "peck or bushel," on omer is a unit of dry volume.
Here is a little about "Count the Omer"
During the time of the Beis Hamikdosh [2nd Temple], there was a mitzvah
on the second night of Pesach(Passover) to harvest a measurement of
three sa'ah of barley. The following day, (the second day of Pesach),
there was a mitzvah (Blessing or ggood deed) to bring a portion of this
harvest, the size of an omer [about 3.3 dry liters], to the Beis
Hamikdosh. On the fiftieth day, after the forty-nine days of counting,
there was a mitzvah to bring the first offering of the year from new
wheat. Nowadays, since we do not have a Beis Hamikdash, the Omer is
neither harvested nor offered. Nevertheless, there is still a mitzvah
to count the Omer.
The count goes for 49 days. The 50th night begins the holiday of
Shavuos; Shavuos means "weeks," referring to these 7 weeks of counting.
Shavuos is the day G-d gave the Torah, and thus the entire counting
period becomes one of continuous elevation and preparation - from the
status of an Egyptian slave to one ready to receive the Torah.
The mitzvah is to count both days and weeks. Therefore, on the eighth
day, we say, "today is eight days, which are one week and one day in
the omer." The Omer may be counted in any language, as long as it is
understood by the counter.
The Jewish days begin at sundown, and we wait until full dark to count
the Omer.
Each day, one says the blessing:
Blessed are You, A-d-noy, our G-d, King of the universe, Who has
sanctified us with His commandments and has commanded us concerning the
counting of the Omer.
Then one says (for the first six days):
Today is ___ day[s] of the Omer.
After 6 days, one includes the weeks:
Today is ___ days, which are ___ week[s] [and ___ day[s]], of the
Omer.
For example: Today is 22 days, which are 3 weeks and 1 day of the Omer.
Then one concludes:
The Merciful One, may He return to us the service of the Temple to
its place, speedily in our days. Amen, Selah!
Many say additional prayers as found in most any Siddur (prayer book).
One must count in a language which he or she understands - thus I have
offered the English here, while the Hebrew can again be found in a
Siddur.
If one forgets to count on any evening, one may count during the
daylight hours of the following day without a blessing, and then resume
counting with a blessing that evening. However, if one forgets to count
during an entire day (until sundown the following day), then one may
not say a blessing again, but must count the Omer without a blessing.
Thus remembering to count the Omer is very important![/quote]
The omer is important for the entirety of mankind because it represents
the "right" amount of food (manna) that should be eaten daily by the
Lord's design. Blessed are the people of Israel who were first to learn
this lesson in their walk with Him during their 40 years in the desert
where the Lord provided both freedom (releasing them from Egyptian
slavery) and food (manna).
From Deuteronomy 8:
2 Remember how the LORD your God led you all the way in the desert these
forty years, to humble you and to test you in order to know what was in
your heart, whether or not you would keep His commands. 3 He humbled
you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which
neither you nor your fathers had known, to teach you that man does not
live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the
LORD . 4 Your clothes did not wear out and your feet did not swell
during these forty years.
May the Lord bless the writing of His Word here on Usenet, in Jesus'
holy name.
Amen.
Writing as a cardiologist, the "your feet did not swell" would indicate
the absence of any vascular disease as a consequence of eating an omer
of food (manna) daily per the Lord's command as described by Exodus
16:16.

MANNA. There is absolutely no indication, Biblical or historical, that
the same quantity of other types of food will supply the same
nutritional values as Manna. One would presume that a kilo of a food provided by God would be pretty
special. You are arrogantly presuming that a kilo of *anything* would

would seem. You really do seem to have a fews problems with, reality, logic, and
understanding what an omer actually is.BTW, have you got around to reading Exodus 16:16 yet?
Your previous references and claims about it would indicate that you
hadn't. It doesn't in any way indicate that an omer is two pounds. When you finish reading Exodus 16:16, try Exodus 16:17-18 where it tells
you that people "gathered every man according to his eating", (they
weren't on diets, you see Chung) so they *DIDN'T* all gather the same
amount, some gathered much, some gathered little, yet when measured it
always exactly filled the omer. Do you think that perhaps Manna had some
properties that something like, say, Pizza lacks?Do you really think that a kilo of junk food has the same value as a
kilo of Manna? Aside from the fact that leftover Manna would rot every
day except the Sabbath, it seems that no matter how much you collected,
you ended up with just enough to provide for your sustenance. Now if
they could make Pizzas and other junk food with those properties, there
would be *no* fat people. Why don't you leave the newsgroups alone and
spend your time praying for a recipe for heavenly pizzas or Manna
burgers? If God truly wants you to lead the way in fighting obesity, I
am sure that he will oblige. If he doesn't - well there's your answer.Regards

I don't receive the Chung junk as he's in my killfile. Manna is in fact a
sweet substance appearing at certain seasons on a wide range of plants.
Three mannas have importance as food. The best known is tamarisk manna
which is high in sugars. It is traditionally prepared by boiling in water
and clarifying with eggs. The resulting syrup is most often made into a
sort of Halva with the addition of more eggs and perhaps almonds, and
probably would not be appropriate for a low carb diet. I won't bore you
with all the rest. However I expect you're enquiry is about the stuff that
shows up in the bible which is miraculous and provided by God or the vivid
imagination of whoever wrote the fairy tale; anyway this certainly has
properties different from any of the known vegetable mannas! -

17 The Israelites did as they were told; some gathered much, some
little. 18 And when they measured it by the omer, he who gathered much
did not have too much, and he who gathered little did not have too
little. Each one gathered as much as he needed. You can just as easily replace omer with the word kilo and not change
the meaning of this passage. However, it is clear from Exodus 16:33 which reads as follows:
33 So Moses said to Aaron, "Take a jar and put an omer of manna in it.
Then place it before the LORD to be kept for the generations to come."that an omer is **not** a jar (or container) as you would assert.

Thanks for providing yourself as an example of someone who truly does
not know how the brain works, dear neighbor. You are certainly welcome to exercise that muscle between your ears to
convince Stacy that your brain works as a muscle :-)Truth is simple:

The way to the truth is straight and narrow:
http://makeashorterlink.com/?A2642108A
You will remain in my prayers, dear neighbor, whom I love, in Christ's
holy name.May you reject your pride and accept Him as your personal Lord and
Savior, someday, so that you too will have eternal life and the
fascinating riches of His everlasting kingdom. Here's how:
http://makeashorterlink.com/?I22222129
Please note that God truly made this special link describing that He is
the great "I am" and that His message is as simple as the number 2 which
is a number between 1 to 9 and reminds us of His 2 commandments, the 2
arms of the cross, the 2nd part of the Trinity, the 2 finger sign of the
Prince of Peace [who remains *V*ictorious over death and satan], and the
2PD-OMER Approach. Let it not ever be written that Christ did not make
His presence known here on Usenet :-)Also, note that Exodus 16:16 continues to remind us that 16 oz plus 16
oz makes 2 pounds, which is "a certain measure of weight," which is what
"omer" literally means in Hebrew.Enter the 2PD-OMER Approach, which can "cure" metabolic syndrome
thereby bringing this thread back on topic for these NGs :-)http://www.heartmdphd.com/wtloss.asp

The brain is a muscle?
Do you believe that it can expand and contract? (That could be handy if
you had a hat that didn't fit.)If you really believe that then I suspect that you have some pretty
severe "musculature atrophy" problems.Brain tissue is a little more complex than muscle tissue, a little more
sophisticated. You may have been confused by people comparing the brain
with a muscle in as much as they both need to be "exercised" to perform
at peak. The brain is definitely NOT a muscle.Regards

<<snip>>Is this an article of faith? Because, you don't know what the
nutritional composition of manna was, and you don't know what the
average nutritional balance of a person on the 2PD approach (with or
without the Lord's blessing) would be.
