  1. I usually like to eat some tomato with my steaks or fish.

I sometimes go with carrots instead but recently I head a guy say that
    lettuce is worthless.

Out of curiosity what are the benefits of these sort of salads and is
    lettuce really worthless?

Living life to the fullest. I like that.

Guys around you discuss that, huh?

Salad, filling. Iceberg lettuce, worthless. Darker lettuces, a little
better. Stuff that goes in salad...carrots, tomatoes, all that richly
colored stuff...full of antioxidants, phytonutrients, vitamins, minerals.

  3. Lettuce by itself has very little as far as vitamins, but is good
    roughage.

I heard somebody say that iceberg lettuce is very bad for your
digestive tract. Turns into a paste or something like that. This
person was into all those conspiracy-theory type things so i took it
with a grain, but was a little curious...?

I like using baby spinach instead of lettuce ... it's tastier, has a
better texture, and it's chock-full of calcium and other good-for-you
    stuff:

In the supermarket, you can get bags of baby spinach, or baby spinach
with carrot bits, or baby spinach and arugula and other weird leafy
    things.

Cabbage is a good alternative as well.

lettuce think about this one for a minute...

Spinach is better for a filler, albeit I really enjoy Ceasear salads
    this time of year.

My favorite sub for spinach is stinging nettles, but you cant eat them
raw! Boiled though, VERY tasty and afaik full of nutrients, and its the
right time of year for them (maybe too late for you southerners tho...)

Iceburg lettuce has little to no nutritional value and will kill some
animals if fed. Never feed it to rabbits!

Leaf lettuce (I like to get boston butter lettuce or read leaf lettuce,
or Romaine) has some nutritional value, but I have to have a craving for
    it to buy it.

I make most of my salads with baby spinach leaves, and sometimes swiss
chard. A few fresh basil leaves in a salad is a real treat too.

Fresh sliced tomatoes contain a lot of anti-oxidants. I'll be getting
them fresh off of my own vines in the greenhouse here shortly! ;-d
There are several beginning to turn red.

  10. Arugala, Belgium endive, raddicio, sliced red onion, walnut oil and
muscatel grape vinegar or balsamic, pan tosted walnuts and thinly sliced

Watercress washed well and thick stems removed, sliced red onion, sliced
navel oranges, pan toasted hazelnuts or walnuts crushed, salt & pepper,
extra virgin olive oil, or hazelnut oil, muscatel grape vinegar and
    shavings of parmesan cheese.......another winner!

Good sweet cherry tomato's cut in half, red onion, fresh basil leaves,
mozzarella balls, salt & pepper, extra virgin olive oil, balsamic vinegar

Char Grill Japanese purple eggplants on all sides, cooled, skinned and
lightly chop the eggplant pulp, finely chopped tomato's, seeds
