Actually, all bike components are made of gold, with a plating of steel or aluminium or a plastic
sheath. This disguises them effectively.
Once you know that all the components are made of gold, you understand
(a) why they cost so much, and (b) why they wear out so fast.
Really high end bikes also have frames made of gold, and Stelvios have belts made of gold thread.
