Actually, all bike components are made of gold, with a plating of steel or aluminium or a plastic
sheath. This disguises them effectively.

Once you know that all the components are made of gold, you understand
(a) why they cost so much, and (b) why they wear out so fast.

Really high end bikes also have frames made of gold, and Stelvios have belts made of gold thread.

There have indeed been special limited edition gold plated groupsets. Could have been one of those,
I suppose.

Not quite. 99% of threaded brake components are made from cheese.

Actually, I'm sure we've all owned at least one bike that was made entirely from cheese.

Mine appeared to be made from Roquefort, even though it was a British brand :-(
