  1. This month I seem to be back to a 1 pound per week rate, but last month was
about 2 pounds per week. Back when I was 300, ten pounds made a barely
observable change. Now, ten pounds is radical. As I approach goal range
the change in my looks seems to accelerate.

Last month my hands seemed strange and alien. This month my forearms feel
odd. I can place my hand around my wrist and it feels like someone else's.

I'm now back to a weight last visited in the mid 1980's.

I got tired of going to TOPS meetings, so I stopped going. However, my one
    month there was interesting.

Once a month, I attend an electronics flea market. It involves an hour of
walking. This month was the first where I was not in pain after scanning
    all the booths.

Twice in the last two weeks I have had my ID challenged by store clerks. My
VISA card has my picture on it. They asked if this was me, and then wanted
    to see additional ID.

I used to divide household chores like vacuuming across several days.
Yesterday, I vacuumed the whole house at once and was not in pain.

I got the second phase of paperwork from the National Weight Control
Registry. They do ask a lot of biased questions. However, the scope of the
questions does convey an idea of what I'm doing.

I wonder if all these changes you're noticing aren't just as important as
the numbers on a scale. Losing weight is all about bettering the quality
of our lives and being able to walk around your flea market or vacuuming
all at once are great indications of that that's exactly what's happening
    🙂.

It is a violation of their contract with MasterCard/VISA to require
additional identification on a *signed* card. Pet peeve of mine. If
you want them to check ID "for your protection", just leave the card
    unsigned.

Me, I'll rely on my $50 exposure limit for unauthorized purchases, and
keep the ability to loan my card to my SO.

I'm starting to get questioning looks re my ID, too. At first I picked
out the words "ID" and "challenged" and had a different reaction,
though -- twice in the last month or so I've had my CREDIT
challenged/compromised. I got a VISA bill with a charge on it from
FRANCE (I think a spammer opened an ISP account there). I rarely use
that card, but I charged things from 3 different electronics stores
late last year, so the breach had to come from one of them (Fry's, Best
Buy and Circuit City). Then last week I got a letter informing me that
someone broke into one of the offices of a local medical group and
stole two computers which contained about 185K medical records (with
    SSNs), including mine. Sigh ...

Thank you for sharing Cubit. I started out needing to lose 153 pounds,
and currently have 31 to go. I, too, feel different. My weight loss
has slowed, but the inches continue to go, and so does the "shape" of
my body. It's a great feeling. Congratulations to you... and thanks
    again for sharing.

All of these stories are SO inspiring! I totally believed, before starting
to learn about LC, that the ONLY way to lose larger amounts of weight was
through surgery. Reading about the losses of over 100# excites me to the
point I want to cry 🙂.

    Hey Sherry,

I was 52 pounds heavier than you when I started, and while I'm still
about 75 pounds from my goal, having lost about 160 pounds has made a
    huge difference in my life.

And I did it low carbing - no surgery. As my motto goes, "Don't mess
    with the kishkas."

Myra that makes my heart sing! Not just because of the potential I feel

It is great - except for the last couple of weeks. I injured my back,
so I'm sort of laid up and can't get to the gym right now. That
    sucks.

To be honest, I did get down to 221.75 at one point - 190.25 pounds
down, but I had some regain last year. I'm almost back to where I
was, and I've been okayed for a panniculectomy later this year.

    What happened, girl?

I wish I could say I hurt my back during some wild sexual escapade
involving a swing, the ceiling, sugar-free fudge topping, a waterbed
and Gerard, but, alas, I think I just slept wrong and then exacerbated
it by doing my presses on a wobbly bench.

The first doctor I saw said a disc was bulging slightly and pressing
on a nerve, and she took me off work for a few days and gave me muscle
relaxants, Vicodin (neither of which really work on me) and said to
take a triple dose of ibuprofen twice a day. That was last Thursday.
BTW, my blood pressure was 110/60, so I know I was stressed out.

I tried to go back to work this past Tuesday, but between the pain
from getting up in the morning and the pain from spending 30-40
minutes in my car driving in (I hurt the right side of my back, so it
affects my driving leg), I lasted about 59 minutes before one of the
attorneys took pity on me and drove me to the emergency room, where I
got an injection of ibuprofen directly into my hip and X-rays, which
show that my spine is fine and dandy, and - oh boy - you can see the
staples from my gallbladder surgery in 1983. The ER doc said it was
sciatica, gave me prescriptions for more Vicodin (which I'd stopped
taking anyway because IT WASN'T WORKING) and a *quadruple* dose of
ibuprofen (which, when coupled with some Aspercreme, does help,
actually). I'm also supposed to start physical therapy in the next
day or two. This is Kaiser - so I have to wait for the PT to call me,
except I'll be calling in the morning because I haven't heard from
    them yet.

Last night, I slept at my folks, since they have recliner chairs, but
that didn't help at all - although it was sort of fun watching "The
Amazing Race" with 'em. So, I'm back home tonight. I haven't been to
the office since last Wednesday (except for that one hour yesterday),
and it's eating the time off I'd been saving for my panniculectomy
    (dammit).

Anyway, I have to sleep in 2-hour snippets, and I'm bored out of my
mind, except for those lovely moments when the spasms hit. Then, I'm
very entertained, and I'm surprised you can't hear the screams from
    your office.

    Aren't you sorry you asked?

YEOW! I think *I* hear them! Muscle spasms can be EXCRUCIATING.
Sciatica is no picnic, either. I have one word of advice: ICE. More
than once I've toyed with the idea of inventing a full-body suit that
you could set to ice various parts.

    Myra,

Ibuprofen is NOT good for joints. Kaiser is NOT good for bad backs,
either. They were who was treating me when I blew out a disc years ago
and the drugs they put me on left me with tinnitus that persisted long
after the back pain went away.

Time is the big healer with back injuries. Studies show that if you wait
it out you may end up better than those who have surgery. My disc injury
was so bad I had a paralyzed leg muscle but it is now many years later
and I am pain free as long as I don't do stupid things.

I have found the following two things help the very most with pain.

    1. Plain old Tylenol with no narcotics. It works BETTER than the stuff
with codeine. Take the lowest dose and work up. I found surprisingly
good relief with only one pill. Don't drink any alcohol with it as the
combination is destructive of your liver.

    2. DHEA. 5 mg a day (a very small dose which I buy at Whole Foods as the
drug stores don't carry it). It causes the body to synthesize its own
cortisone hormones and for me the pain relief is amazing. I thought it
might be one of those things that only affects me with my weird drug
responses, but a friend in her 60s has started it on my recommendation
and has noticed an improvement in joint pain too.

    Hope you feel better soon!

Please may I ask, what is panniculectomy?

    O

It's the surgical removal of excess fat and skin around the abdominal
    region.

    Thank you

YEOW! I think *I* hear them! Muscle spasms can be EXCRUCIATING.
Sciatica is no picnic, either. I have one word of advice: ICE. More
than once I've toyed with the idea of inventing a full-body suit that
you could set to ice various parts.

I tried the ice, and it so didn't work - I went into spasms for almost
two hours. Haven't tried it again.
