hey all,
i'm wondering if whey protein will help me gain muscle mass/weight. I'm
5'7, 125 pounds and take ballet, taekwondo and swimming. I don't lift
any weights except isometric(?) exercises like pushups and situps.
thanks!

Negative. You need to lift progressively heavier weights on regular
basis, get enough rest, eat hypercalorically and get enough protein in
order to gain muscle mass. Whey protein won't do much unless you
consume enough calories and lift heavy enough weights.

Whey protein is just another source of protein, just like
meat, but usually with less fat.
Wrong. Try www.brinkzone.com/whey-cancer.html for one example.

Wow...
And 30 grams per day is NOT one hell of a lot!
When I do Isopure Whey, I generally do 2 shakes per day at 40 grams each.
Neat site, thank you!

I use creatine for general health based on articles he's written for Life

I guess such machinations don't bother me as much. Maybe I just expect it.

Really? It would seem that "oral" would be the expected way to supplement a
substance found in various edible food-like things. What am I missing? And
does the butler end up being guilty?

<snicker> I take it you are a republican?????
I don't take creatine at the moment, but am considering it later.
I have enough of a problem with fluid retention due to the
hypothyroidism... so I'm dubious that it would benefit me, at least
until I get most of the weight off.

Speaking of that, I took everything I did for the LEF on creatine and
added additional material, and put it all into one big report on
creatine. And yes you cheap J%#, it's free. See:

I didn't have the energy to go through all that thread, but I have done
consulting work for them, RnD, and of course write for their mag. They
generally have very high quality controll, some great formulations
(their multi is by far the best on the market), use the best raw
materials they can as a rule, and are a good group most of the time. A
few of their formulas are odd and based on thin science, but most of
their stuff ranges from great to good. They hired a friend of mine who I
set up with them, who is an Brown and Dartmouth trained MD with many
years in big pharma, so things should only improve, in particular the
science behind formulations, etc.

My comment on this is simply life extension in and of itself does seem to
attract a certain mind set when it comes to supllementation. I am familiar
with their products and always of the opinion that some are the best out
there. some OK. And some that totally miss the mark.

Aw, come on, I expect better of you, really. Here's BOTH sentences that end
the abstract:
"The oral bioavailability of resveratrol is almost zero due to rapid and
extensive metabolism and the consequent formation of various metabolites as
resveratrol glucuronides and resveratrol sulfates. The potential biologic
activity of resveratrol conjugates should be considered in future
investigations."
Maybe you want to argue that I am wasting my time injecting phosphenytoin
into seizure patients, because phosphenytoin has almost no biological
activity. We'll just ignore it's metabolite...phenytoin...Dilantin...the
world's most common antiseizure drug.
I think I'll drop out of this thread, thanks.

OK. But, you DO have an anti-LEF bias that seems to go beyond any one
specific example. Is there something you'd like to share? Beaten by a
rolled-up LEF magazine as a child? Rejected by that hot LEF phone order
taker? Come on, 'fess up!
