Hil all;
I'm enjoying my new bike (Kestrel Talon) but NOT its wheels.
It was built with Spinergy SR3 wheels (I asked the shop owner to put on something that would handle
my size. I'm 6'1" and weigh about 215)
In the first few hundred miles, I had two spokes unscrew themselves on rides. Nothing catastropic,
but certainly a pain to remedy on the road with the recessed spoke nipples that these wheels use.
Last night I broke a spoke but managed to ride the 20 miles back on a slightly wobbly wheel. So now
with only 700 miles on the set, I have now had three rides interrupted because of wheel problems.
I am loosing confidence in these wheels. I had originally planned on getting a better wheelset when
I could afford it anyway, but now I am thinking better sooner than later.
So what I would like is some suggestions from the group. Taking into consideration my size (and the
fact that there are some nasty roads around here, so sturdyness is a plus) what should I be
considering?
I can afford something in the $600 range. I tried a friend's Mavic Ksyrium wheels ($700) and loved
them. Do you think these would be durable enough for me? I guess I want the best of all worlds...
inexpensive, sturdy and light. Most important right now is sturdy, followed by light. The price I
can deal with if I can find the set I really like.
Thanks for any pointers...
