Sigh. My own office space fantasy involves a couple of acres of semi-rural land, a few sheep, half a dozen chooks, an enormous dog (called Max) to keep said chooks and sheep in line, and a nice neat little sign with a surprised looking fish on it, above a shed filled with race bikes, touring bikes, cool transport bikes, tandems... The sound of metal being filed (as well as any number of angry dykes coming from the stereo), and that lovely smell of hot flux...

    Cue big sigh.

    Oh well, back to work.

    Cheers,

    Suzy

    returning?

Hope you can keep us posted with an on-line travelogue.

Sitting here in my home office (telecommute two days a week, Tuesday and
Friday) on my five acres, our 8 chooks wandering around the yard, my dog
lying by my side, sun streaming in the window, no sheep though. My shed is
filled with woodworking stuff and I'm netsurfing for a wide-belt sander I'm
looking to add to my machinery collection. Listening to Dido in the
background, thinking that the espresso machine must be up to pressure, so
I'll stop for a cappo now.

    It's a tough life, ain't it?

A few years ago, I was on a car trip to Narrabri with a workmate. I was driving, so he was running the CD player. He flipped through my CD collection looking for a CD to put on, saying "angry dyke, angry dyke..." Since then I tend to refer to music I like as angry dykes, even though most of them aren't.

    Regards,

    Suzy

PS: For reference, these "angry dykes" were artists like Alanis Morrisette, Jewel, Suzanne Vega, Sheryl Crow etc, who to the best of my knowledge eren't even dykes.

Vega was. had a crush on her when i woz young till i found out she was 'batting for the other side' so to speak! darned waste and all that blah blah

speakin of 'angry dykes' we had a house until not so long ago in Daylesford where the proprietors of most of the main street is referred to as the 'Lesbian Maffia'. The town kinda works on 2 levels. the 'locals' and the ring ins. the locals do burnouts and whinge and the newbies make great food and coffee and only employ 'imports' from Melbourne.
Still miss that house. Had single track goin past the back door...

Mid-May the Disappearing Hippy act commences. Return date? What return
date? (One-way ticket with no plans, currently).

So do I! What's the point of travelling if you can't make other people
    jealous about it hehehe :P

Actually, I do want to maintain some kind of journal, online or
otherwise, for my benefit and perhaps others who are thinking of doing
something similar. If I get myself into some 'net cafes.. my blog will
probably get the odd update and cyclingforums will have my business
again (being the compulsive a.b poster I am 🙂).

How do I score one of those jobs Theo?

I'm sure I'll get sick of European weather one day 🙂

Well, first you've got to get a job that pays good money for hard
work. Work at it for 30 years to get enough money to buy the five
acres and the house to put on it. Make sure your children grow up with
a good work ethic. Son starts own company. Dad gets retrenched after
33 years with the same company. Joins son in his endeavour. Dad puts
in $30K of capital and recieves 15% share in company.
Ten years later the company has grown from three staff and $350K
turnover to 18 staff and $4M turnover. 15% share now worth around
$700K. Technology allows people to telecommute. Dad telecommutes.
Technology also allows dad to have an easy to remember email address:-

hehehe fair-e-nuff. I'll try the 'find small company that simply MUST
have my skills thereby allowing me to demand the ability to telecommute'
method. Actually, if I was a telecommuter, I wouldn't be riding to work!
That's no good - I'd have to 'think' about making ride loops up and
    stuff to keep me riding..

I started with NCR and my skill was that I installed and maintained
their first main-frame in WA in 1968. It was the fourth main-frame in
    WA.
