On one of our radio stations in Perth we have a weekly "ask a copper' segment. This week a, obviously indignant, caller asked if cyclists had to ride single file or could they ride "double breasted". That raised a few laughs and the copper said they were legally entitled to ride "two abreast" and told the caller in simple straight words that cyclists were part of the traffic and should be accorded the same rights as other road users. He then told a tale of being stuck behind a lady cyclist and noticed she had no hands on the bar. When he got along-side her he realised she was using both hands to send an SMS on her mobile. When he got her attention she quickly put her left hand on the bar whilst continuing to enter her SMS with her right hand. It's not just motorists who use mobiles, apparently.
