  1. Was at the grocery store tonight...all the low-carb (mostly high [censored])
products are on sale..BIG TIME! I did pick up som LC BBQ sauce, steak sauce
and (don't flame) Atkins granola bars (for $1/each).

I know fewer people are LC-ing these days. I mostly blame media
misinformation (eat all meat, no veggies, etc.) and marketing of candy,
chips and just about everything else as low carb. I was just amazed to see
so many LC products on the clearance shelves!

BTW...started LC in May 2002--lost 60-65 lbs. Stayed fairly strict for 2
years. Had a rough year last year, gained 15-20 back. Started induction
two weeks ago...down 7.5lbs--i forgot how easy this was.

  2. Well, I have hope that the "staples" like LC ketchup and pickles will hang
in there as they are also good for diabetics which is a very large market.

    In news:[email hidden],
    [email hidden] <[email hidden]> stated
    | Whether fewer people are actually doing LC now vs a year ago is
    | debatable. What isn't debatable is the fact that at the very least,
    | the growth rate of people starting LC has slowed dramatically. The
    | big slow down started about mid last year and has been reported in
    | numerous polls. At the same time, you had all these companies
    | ramping up products like the demand would continue to grow
    | exponentially for years to come. So now, in many cases, you have
    | temporarily at least, too much product.
    |
    | Short term, this is good. I got some super deals on some great LC
    | products recently at prices I couldn't believe. Like CarbSense cookie
    | mix for $1 a box at Walmart, which are still $5.69 at the local
    | supermarket. I bought a lot of them. Last time I was at Walmart,
    | they had dropped the remaining CarbSense mixes to 50c. Of course, you
    | have to know which ones you like, as some are terrible and which ones
    | have acceptable carb counts, etc. Long term, the danger is that if
    | demand drops too low, or there are too many vendors, we could lose
    | some of the really great LC products. Things like the Heinz LC
    | ketchup, LC sweet pickles, pickle relish, LC tortillas, bread, etc.
    | These things make doing LC a hell of lot easier than it was even 3
    | yrs ago.

  3. The following is from an AP story that ran in the Courier Journal on
    3-31-05.

    Diet food glut benefits Appalachia
Charities distribute excess to the needy

PAINTSVILLE, Ky. -- A surplus of diet food for the overweight has been a
boon for the hungry in Appalachia.

Unsold crates of low-carbohydrate energy bars, shakes and breakfast mixes
have been pouring into the Christian Appalachian Project to be distributed
    in mountain communities.

Here is a link to the article.

I wonder if the Atkins bars will provoke the same response as did muffings
    with no tops?

" It's silly to draw your conclusions based on those products alone.
    They
are very new in the scheme of things, and veterans stay away from them
    in
droves. The market will readjust yet again, and maybe the next time
    they'll
get closer to something that's really LC. "

I didn't draw conclusions from any specific products, but rather from
many news reports, polls that have been reported and my own
observations of many products. As for veterans staying away from them,
I figured I'd soon hear from some narrow minded purist. For the
record, I first learned of the wonders of Atkins in 1974. As for
"getting closer to something that's really LC", what the hell do you
know? If the current Heinz ketchup, Mt Olive sweet pickles, or LC
tortillas aren't good enough for you and you don't think they are
"really low carb", too bad. Don't buy them and stop complaining. I
think they are just great and a welcome addition.

Having a bad day? I was commenting on the trend that is wiping the store
shelves clean of mostly LC treats & junk food. The media reports of falling
sales are true, but not an accurate indicator of lack of interest in a LC
    lifestyle. Where was I complaining?

Top O' The Muffin to ya! 😉

    Mark

    (sorry, couldn't resist)

  6. the reason they are on sale is because the products have been discontinued

that's what happened in our grocery store

    what a shame

    discontinued

Which products are you talking about? The ones I've seen heavily
discounted all seem to be still available. For example, Walmart was
selling the CarbSense muffin mix, carrot cake mix, pizza crust mix,
etc, for $1 a box. However, they are still available online from
Netrition at like $3.75 a box and it appears they are being
manufactured. Did you mean the products you saw were no longer being
manufactured or that the store just isn't carrying them anymore?
