That's because it is purported to give more flavor.
Also, the bony cuts are cheaper and thus used more,
especially in Caribbean cooking. I hate the bones
also, but it's a cultural thing. I must say though
that the goat dishes at a local Indian restaurant,
which is about the only one in the area that actually
uses goat, do not have the bones.

When I cook goat I buy a meaty cut and bone it then
cut the meat into cubes.

I don't know if we're "anti-goat" so much as just not used to
it. It never became a popular meat here. I love it myself if
properly prepared. I like the Caribbean goat curry best.
The Indian dishes I don't care for as much, even though I
really love Indian food. To my taste the flavor of their
sauces don't go as well with the flavor of goat as do the
Caribben sauces.

I'm American, and I am pro-goat-eating. I don't know why so many people are

It is /really/ good stuff when done right. In the city of North
Park in the San Diego area there is a taco shop called "Ray's Taco
Shop". Because of the name I avoided it for a long time. It just

Yes all of those things are very tasty. While I think at first this
American dislike started as a mixture 'thats not normal' during the
move to the cities during the first 2 decades of the 20th cent and
then became formalized during the Great Depression when for many
people /any/ food was a luxury but the farms were only producing the
big money makers like cows, and pigs.

So now pig, cow, chicken and turkey are the only things Americans eat
and as the years went by pigs started to be less fatty, chicken started
to taste more like cardboard and cows just got bigger and bigger.
In the end Americans relying on a diet of tasteless fast food now just
don't like flavor. As a result all of the good things you named above
are now seen as not just non-food items but when eaten taste 'funny'.

It also has to do with availability. The supermarkets used to carry
rabbit fairly regularly, for example, and now when I ask for it they
give me a blank stare. Goat is sometimes available here at the stores
in Spanish-speaking neighborhoods. Beets are widely available except,

A good place to buy goat meat is from a Halal butcher. My local one
gets whole carcases and will provide me with any cut I want.

BTW, in Indian recipes goat meat is referred to as mutton.

goat meat and whatever salsa you want on it. It's a soft taco

mistake of not inquiring about it's ingredients before ordering
a soft taco at Taco Bell the other night (yeah, I know, blecch,
but I had almost no cash and just needed something to nosh on
while my car was being serviced and I was missing dinner - it's
cheap and filling and not too bad tasting). They used a plain
unheated, ungrilled, un-anything *FLOUR* tortilla! Yuck! What
are these people thinking? But I should have known better.

I know I'm probably going to get flamed for this, but Taco Bell is one
of my favorite places to eat for Mexican food! You just have to know
what to order, and our local one is really good!

The crispy tacos are probably what I get the most of, followed by their
grilled steak thingies (can't think of it off the top of my head but I
know it when I look at the drive thru menu), and any other item that
does not include the uncooked flour tortillas. ;-d

Quick, inexpensive and usually quite tasty!

And I get to take it home, put on a movie and take my time consuming it.

And they have root beer at the fountain!!!

I'd say they are my favorite fast food, followed closely by Jack in the
Box which has a very varied menu..... ;-) Churches Chicken is good too,
but has the WORST fries on the planet!

And I almost never go to McDonalds. <ick> ;-P

been years since I've had a double-meat Whopper with extra cheese and

You are very lucky. The one in my area gets the orders wrong every time and
I call it Taco Hell. Haven't been there in about 8 years as a result. I
don't want to have to check my order at the drive-thru every time. It's not
rocket science - I want 6 crispy corn tortilla tacos without lettuce, okay?
Invariably I'd get 2 steak fajitas with extra peppers and 4 beef/bean
burritos with extra lettuce. When I want tacos I make them at home. Or I
do quesadillas. The market down the street sells some nice chorizo and
Queso farmer's cheese. Add some spinach with that between two tortillas and
you've got a meal!

No flame here. Let's see. Where I live, We have McDonalds, Taco Bell/KFC
combo, Arby's, Runza's, DQ, and Pizza Hut. Now, let's break this down:

McD's - Grew up on them. Like the Big and Tasty burger. The new chicken
strips ain't bad either!

Taco Bell/KFC - Love TB but the one here is a hit/miss on food quality. The
KFC side has a simple re-stocking problem since they seem to run out of
chicken at least once a week. "Welcome to Kentucky Fried Chicken. You can
order anything you want but we don't have chicken tonight."

Arby's - Cheddar Cheese combo please but with the sesame bun. Later, I'll
gladly use the restroom since Arby's seems to pass through me really quick.
I think it's the -meat- they use.

Runza's - Burgers taste almost like what Mom used to make. No complaints
here

DQ - [censored] shoot here. Sometimes good, sometimes something you wouldn't give
to the dog.

Pizza Hut - Hate it. [censored] food and the local joint has a "don't give a
[censored]" attitude.

Now, I'd love to have some other fast food places here, I'm not holding my
breath. Any road trips we make, we eat at none of the aforementioned
places.

See, the problem with Texas is that there are as many mexican
restaurants around here as there are subatomic particles in the universe.

Herberts here in San Marcos is actually famous thru at least 5 counties.
It's a little bitty hole in the wall and always has a line around the
block for lunch.

And nobody cares that they are frequently fined by the health dept. ;-)

I've been there and I don't see what all the fuss is about, except maybe
that they prices vs. portions are very good.

It's just that T-bell is quick and convenient.

If I really want to go out for Mexican, I've heard Mamacita's is good
but expensive! I've not been there yet.

Usually, the smaller "mom and pop" places are the best where you get
really authentic food... I need to check Austin.food for recommendations
next time I get serious about "real" mexican food.

I really do know better! I just really like the speed and convenience of
Taco Bell, and the food is very acceptable, especially in comparison to
the vast majority of "fast food" places. :-)
